Renting Avatar/Signature Space

I've seen this type of thing done on other forums, I'm renting my avatar and sig space to ONE CUSTOMER (the highest bidder). You can put anything allowed by frihost on my avatar and sig. All payments will be made in frih$.

Why would someone want to use your avatar/sig space when everyone has their own? If it's to advertise, isn't that considered spam? Correct me if I'm wrong, maybe I'm just short-sighted, but I see no other purpose for that other than advertising.
