Some additional programs and updates were installed on the server lately, that might be the cause of your problem.

You can try filezilla: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ . I use it and it always works.

Edit --> Settings --> Interface Settings --> File Viewing/Editing
And then select your program. (eg: C:\WINDOWS\notepad.exe )
