Thought this might be of interest here, given current events. Any Google Earth users out there might find this kmz file interesting. 330+ placemarks around NK.

I created this set because I found this country lacks a lot. Not only placemarks. Particular points of interest are the capital city of P'yongyang and the border to South Korea. Besides this the country is plastered with anti-aircraft sites. Sometimes it is quiet evident what they protect and sometimes they look unfinished or abandoned/dismantled. And I am sure I did not find all and have mistakingly identified a site where it might be something else.
At P'yongyang you can see yourself that this propably the best protected city in the world, at least against air raids. Besides the many many anti-aircraft sites I placed a lot of site-seeing placemarks in P'yongyang. You may find that some interesting looking places have been left out. This is the case because either the place looks interesting but is of minor importance (restuarants and most indoor stadiums just for example) or I could not identify it (The shiny silver dome in down-town P'yongyang for example). I gave my very best to identify the important spots but I did not succed on everything. I took my reference data (maps, commented photographs) from a lot of sites on the internet and cross-verified many of them. If you think you provided some of this information yourself, let me thank you.
At the border I placed some current and historical placemarks. Searching the web for these in combination with the Korean War will for sure bring up some quiet interesting links into the history of this area.
Finaly there's folder "Other stuff" which contains more or less interesting observations. Mixed bag of military, fun and strange stuff all over the place. |

If we do invade, we suddenly have a useful purpose for all those stealth bombers again... yippee!
I believe that no military solution, it is an acceptable solution in the present.
The North Korea cannot be a faced danger for the USA, however we should not have thought about the North Korea like a simple villain, have to remember of the Iraq and how much innocent souls there were already lost.
Certainly there will be another solution of what a nuclear war.
So N Korea manages to hit the US with their one nuke, and devastates a town of 1000. The US strikes back and N Korea is inhabitable. The logic behind a military solution to N Korea just doesn't have any merits. They are a threat to S Korea, who seem to be doing a good job of waiting for Kim Jong ding dong to fall over dead.
N Korea makes a good issue for (moderate) democrats and republicans because it's isolated, communist, and a dictatorship. The US ambassadors at the UN can help bring this issue into the media by aggrevating N. Korea at negotiations and by calling for strict economic penalities -- causing desperate actions like nuclear testing. As Americans we can help start a war with N. Korea by believing that N. Korea is a realistic threat to the US and democracy everywhere.

I don't see any motivation to want nuclear weapons. I'm Australian and our Prime Minister has long been accused of being George Bush's bitch but that doesn't disguise the fact that out of every country in the world the USA is going to be the most responsible with the weapons.
I saw a feature on the news, where a western news reporter went into North Korea, and tried to show us what it looks like. The students are taught that they are the happiewst people on the earth, and they have so much food; when the reality is that most North Koreans are malnurtured and are living in one of the toughest conditions in the whole world. I know this from a North Korean that escaped successfully and tells everyone that they are leing in North Korea, which everyone pretty much knows.
We should have taken action on N. Korea before, now its too late. We dont know what's in the mind of Kim Jong Il, but one of the top official defector from N. Korea, Kim Jong Il is looking forward for a one Korea, meaning he wants to invade S. Korea. With N. Korea's threat in Asia, theres a big probability of Nuclear arms race in the region. And that will be a bigger problem.
The world should provide hope for the north korean people. It is a shame that such a stalinistic government is able to rule there using so much punishment. the whole society is based upon fear. not necessarely there is need for democracy. the US is no democracy either. but there is need for a government that provides what the people need and they need a way to life, get children, hope for the future, trade and a level of prosperity that allows them to life righteous.

I'd disagree... By all appearances Israel has had nuclear weapons for a long time, and yet, despite nearly being destroyed completely multiple times they have never used them.

I would say I agree with scotty. The USA have never been threatened by an possible invasion since it had nuclear weapons. And even when it was winning in World War II, it bombed 2 japanese cities with nuclear weapons.
Even the Chinese Commies didn't use nuclear weapons in the Korean war when it joined the war on the north koreans' side when the americans and south koreans were winning. Likewise, it fought several minor wars with the Vietnamese and Indians and didn't use the nuclear weapons. Althought I think it was mainly because there was no doubt they would win without nuclear weapon anyway.
So basically I would agree in terms of responsibilty ranking, Israel is top since those guys have been faced with the greatest security threats and yet had not used its nuclear bombs. You certainly can't make the claim that the only country ever to use nuclear weapons against its enemies is more responsible than every other nuclear powers who all didn't use their nuclear arsensals at all. I think to eliminate "did they use it?" from consideration and to use "did they guard their nuclear installations and materials securely?" as the sole measure of nuclear responsibility is baised.
