Refine Search

Its a rule on Frihost that you need to do a search before creating a new topic. The search engine in PHP in not good enough for this sort of site.

For instance, I wanted to talk about the Nintendo Wii. So as I would, I do a search for it. Heres how the results show:

  1. Ps3's Price Tag!
  2. Super Smash Bros.
  3. Halo Series!
  4. Nintendo Wii(Revolution)
  5. [OFFICIAL] What's your hobby?

Now while one would understand to post the topic in the 4th result, it Should come up in first place. I also think that it needs to have a short description on what the topic is about such along the same design as google. Hey, if Frihost nearly comes up in every search result, why not place the google search thingy (the one with adsense) on the search page as well?

I also think you need to include the search engine on every page in the new Frihost, as it would quite possibly create more topics and posts, resulting in more revenue. Why? I know sometimes, I would go to post in a topic, but the top search results wouldn't have the topic i'm after and I wont scroll through multiple pages just to post a comment.

You need to select the options "Search for all terms" and "Sort by topic title" for more relevancy in this case.

I'll also put a google search box on the search page and/or elsewhere. However Google doesn't have all pages indexed and also with a 1-2 weeks delay (so you won't get the last few days/week).

That helped a little bit:

  1. Refine Search
  2. Ps3's Price Tag!
  3. Nintendo Wii(Revolution)
  4. [OFFICIAL] PlayStation 3

Is there any chance that could be selected by default?

I bet you didn't sort it by topic title, that one changes it a lot. Wink

  1. [ Poll ] [UNOFFICIAL] Nintendo Wii Poll
  2. Sticky: [ Poll ] [OFFICIAL] PlayStation 3
  3. [ Poll ] [OFFICIAL?] Wii!
  4. [games]Comienza la cuenta atrás

About making "search for all terms" default, in a lot of cases this is quite useful and the phpbb coders made it default for a good reason (I suppose).

But you'll get your Google search anyway. Very Happy
