But seriously...define sex movie. Are we talking Porn? Hard/Soft? Artsy Sex movies? Movies that involve sex scenes? Making ones in your own home?

What do you mean exactly? Give me an example from titles you have in mind.

I agree with cheh, gratuitous sex scenes in movies add nothing. And besides, when there is so much genuine pornography out there, why settle for soft-focus rip-offs? My own personal feeling is that pornography (and im assuming that's what you mean by sex movies) has it's place, but nothing beats sex itself.
In specifics, i think that a vast majority of existing porn is terrible quality and not worth watching. As a guy, i have never found any attraction to seeing another man 'fulfil himself' (the money shot), and find most of the camera work to be so asexual (focusing purely on genitalia) as to be meaningless. But occasionally they get it right, and like i say, it has its place - so dont listen to the naysayers, sex is a fun topic. Lets have some open (not sordid/pornographic - im sure there are moderators watching) discussion on what makes a good sex movie. After all, almost all of us will have seen one, no? And even if not, you must have an opinion?

OK, sex movies probably sholdn't have a story.... it's what some of us think. For that we have porn. But I think that, au contraire, there should be sex movies with more involved content, and I mean, real, serious movies. Haven't you seen extremely erotic scenes in non-sex movies, that made you want to.... you know...? Well, I'd like to see real high-quality movies having sexual content as well as other things alongside. Of course story is stupid in a sex-movie when the movie's story is... stupid. meaning that it would be stupid anyway, in any other kind of movie. The stroy should be solid and the characters shouldn't "do something just to get to... action". No, the sex part should be an organic part of the story. There could be a lot of sex, or just a few very hot and explicit scenes. They could make for example a documentary-like sex movie, that studies the sex life of the WakaWaka tribe in amazonia... or the sex life of Geishas, etc etc, there could be a movie about bad guys raping poor innocent girls... it's not moral, of course, but people love watching such stuff, it could be great entertainment and very hot. It doesn't mean that the men watching such a movie are going to actually start raping their innocent neighbour teeenager girls or anything like that. Just like watching a violent movie doesn't have to make you a violent person (but life's frustrations might). Anyway, I mentioned rape because it's an example of how sexual content can be organically introduced in a movie. The movie can be about gangs and drugs and such, and it could have a lot of explicit sexual content (including showing sex-scenes from start to end - Spielberg for example loves huge scenes and continuity, why can't any movie have long scenes that picture... anything you want? if only the sex scenes are the "long scenes" of a movie, it will look weird and artificial, but if the whole movie is one big continuity, and both sex and non-sex scenes flow from one into another, that's different). So I'd encourage such creations, of real high quality movies that include sexual content (as much or as explicit as needed...). We don't like when a normal film's scene ends with the prelude, we want to see the continuity, we want details, close ups, all that would go in any kind of scene. Just.... don't have stupid dialogue and bad acting and artificial reactions. Have a strong story and good actors. And a very very good director, of course. And there you go 
Besides story, I think non-story sex movies are necessary, and the more diverse, the better. Actually, sex movies are probably the only kind of movies with a real.... real-world functionality. Just like flight simulators, but flight-simulators are not movies
I think people need to know more about sex and develop their sexuality and experience more and more. It's good for one's health, especially mental health. I think good sex has a lot to do with knowing more about sex,and movies are, of course, not the only way you can get to know more - there's internet, books, magazines, people, etc - but there's quite a lot of stuff you can learn from sex movies as well. They're good appetisers as well, of course

All movies are simulating. Love movies simulates love. War movies simulates killing. Erotic movies simulates people enjoying having sex. But I guess some people (like you) prefer "home-made" movies of that kind, where there's no pretending.
I prefer such movies with a good script, good actors, a good budget and maybe a dash of humor aswell.
I don't have any problem with porn...Actually I have build up quite a collection. And sometimes my girlfriend and I are really enjoying watching that stuff. My girlfriend always reminds me that she wants to watch it to see what's new...what we never did before...it's like inspiration. Whether there is a story or not, if it's fake or not, I really don't care. Normally we do not even watch that long

You won't learn anything from porn, it's all simulated. The best way you can learn any techniques is by learning from other people. I picked up some tricks that a lot of girls I've been with really love, and you don't learn any of them from porn. I mean, you won't here a damn thing about a g-spot in a porno. I have consumed pornography many many times from the time I was, say 13 or 14...
The experience of touching yourself is a frankly fantastic thing itself, being a basic thing for life to know your body and mind as deep as possible.
The point is that I have been experiencing the mind businesses from some time ago, and my deep feeling about insatisfaction coming from consuming some light drugs like alcohol, cigarettes and pornography, nothing really hard but simply the way many of us can do sometimes...
My own experience about this is that watching sex movies is not natural at all, it does not match at all with the real experience of having sex with your partner, and the feeling it makes in you is very similar to the one made with alcohol and cigarettes... something really inconsistent and a really quick way to have your mind floating in chemicals, some natural and some unnatural...
So, as a conclusion, I certainly dislike to watch sex movies, even though I have enjoyed it for many years... but I have discovered the feeling I get with it is not sustainable, not deeply good either, nothing I certainly want to be with me in general.

Well, i don't think it's right... Some people are "porn stars". Sex is not something like that.. It's not that bad.. Porn makes people want girls just to have sex.. Love is something different..
