Hurray!
I have XGL on my computer and its realy cool
http://www.novell.com/products/desktop/features/xgl/
Long long time of configuring and it's done now.
Yep
(I can play 50% alpha video on the corner of the cube
)
Xgl is pretty freaking nifty. My friend got it all nice on his computer (my graphics card was having some issues with my gentoo install and xgl so I don't have it myself) and it was looking sweet. But there are so many cool features it is hard to describe it with words. I reccomend looking on youtube for videos of xgl in action.

I have also gentoo and ATI mobility x600
ati proprietary drivers doesn't work because of ancient api and opensource doesn't work becouse chipset RV380 is so new for them
but the "combination" of them works fine
My card has a really weird glitch I couldn't seem to fix. It makes all windows in black and everything else in white. Couldn't see anything. I even saw on the wiki of a fix, but couldn't get it to work. It worked windowed once, but it was slow and glitchy. Doesn't bother me though.
I would love to play with XGL, however, I am too broke to spring for anything remotely decent in the video card arena so i will just have to wait, listening to others who have used it with success.
*weeps*
If I have to compile ONE more thing in FreeBSD I am going to freaking scream. That's why I'm sitting here on my dull little eCS machine and not using XGL.

It is X server, that uses all performance of your graphic card (If you have a driver or all performance of your CPU if not
). It uses OpenGL to render whole desktop so you can run some interesting window manager (compiz, beryl) that provides you for example incredible moving of windows.
You can see more videos here.
disadvantages of Xgl are:
- Still unstable
- memory consuption (8hour running Xgl eats about 470MB of RAM. I have only 512MB so it was the first time of my life I see what is swapping on Linux)
- window manager sometimes crasch on startup and I must restart whole X
wow looks pretty sweet
