How do you install the phpbb forum?

I've been trying to install a phpbb forum on my site.

I've followed online guides and some found on the phpbb site.. and none seem to work, or rather i might have done something wrong.

I downloaded, extracted and uploaded (filezilla) to my site.

I'm supposed to then run install.php, which i've tried, but i always get this screen:





What have i done wrong?

Oh wait, I see your problem. You're not supposed to run install.php through DirectAdmin, because, it doesn't parse php. You're supposed to go to yoursite.frih.net/install.php or wherever your fourms are going to be. I think it'd be

www.theradiodept.frih.net/phpBB2/install.php

And by the way you have 2 //'s, so that may be part of the problem. Wink

one question.. what is "Your Database Name"?
I'm trying to fill in the form, but not sure what to put in that bit


ahh awesome stuff.
I had uploaded to the ftp, which for some reason didnt work.
But uploading with the frontpage extension did the trick.

My rather detailed (if I don't say so myself Razz ) installation tutorial, should answer all your questions.
It sounds like your at step 25 though you need to do step 21-24 Wink

For PHPBB to work, you need a MySQL database. So, create one in DirectAdmin or PHPMyAdmin. Whatever name you chose for that database is what should be filled out for the "Your Database Name" field.

I installed my forum to the path:
.frih.net/forum/phpBB2/

is it possible to now get rid of the /phpBB2/ bit of the path.

people have already began posting on the site...

Transfer all the files to your forum directory. You may need to change some setting in the config though like cookie path etc. All user data & posts though are held in the database so the location of the files used to extract this info doesn't matter.

hmmm thats a lot of work to transfer the files. all the problesm seem to have been sorted out. lolz. i'm a little late.
