i need good suggestion where to start for making a simple but elegant website.

i want to create a simple webpage that generate a userid and give them the right to change their account.

pls give me a hint or suggestion what king og software, like client-server side scripting, databases, webserver, domain, web hosting, what is the most important thing to do.

im currently reading and creating some script in php and mysql. but i need a simple and clear explaination of what kind of software that i need the most.

i suggest you content management systems

PhpNuke is for big portals i think(forum,search,content news etc.)
Joomla,mambo or xoops can be suitable for you as i guess and see its simple
and frihost provides both database and php support.

I use nuke evolution in my website.It is secure advanced and enanched web portal system.

If you do have some time to learn a scripting language to make websites I would recommend you to look around Python.

Python is so simple that with only a few lines code you can create amasing functionality

and you will find tutorials suitable for total beginners.

CMS would be too up for your requirment, I remember i designed the same software which you are looking for. I coded in ASP+MSACCESS its open source so you may have a wider look cum tutorial. Just google for "IAO Login" it sounds pretty funny.
