allanxiao
Hey guys, I wanna learn some Javascript by myself over the holidays, is it a very difficult language to learn? Any suggestions on where I should start?

Thanks!

start from www.w3schools.com . Then if u need a good book on Javascript, go and buy Javascript Bible from:

Amazon.com : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764557432/
BarnesAndNobles.com : http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=&isbn=0764557432
Bookpool.com : http://www.bookpool.com/.x/qstm2jo80m/sm/0764557432

search google for javascript tutorials.. there's a lot you can get over the net. as for javascript.. for small things it's very simple to learn... but it can show off complexity as well.. if required that is Very Happy

Everything may be difficult or easy... it's depends on your willing to learn Wink .
If you are going to learn javascript, make sure you get Venkman firefox extension. It makes your life easier while javascripting Very Happy

Somethings are easy and some are hard. But coding is always fun. Especially if your into Dashboard Widgets. Once you learn a few key concepts you get the hang of it. Thats was my experience was learning it. Then learn other langs. like php.

Have Fun!

Why is it?

CSS is aguably easier than even HTML! - and DHTML is just Javascript + HTML + CSS - its not really a language on its own...

Hey, you might also want to try something new.

For many reasons, JavaScript is one language that most programmers hate. That is why the bright people of Google developed Google Web Toolkit. Its an API that allows you to write your JavaScript in Java! Simply put, its a Java-to-JavaScript compiler. You know how to write Java code? Smile

If you install SeaMonkey with the complet install, or with custom install and choose dev tools, Venkman is already and natively available Cool

You can start with..

1. Wikipedia. Get to know the basics - history, what it is and what its not, where it is used, etc.
2. Next, get a tutorial. Wikipedia provides a number of links to JavaScript tutorials. Else, do the Google search Smile
3. Lastly and most importantly, get a computer, open your notepad, and start learning. This is the necessary method for learning any programming language.

Javascript is very similar to php, and is also more forgiving and easier to debug - if you know php you have nothing to worry about.

Java ISNT Javascript!

Java is a programming-language used to make games and application (not websites), whereas javascript is a very simple scripting language, which works with HTML and CSS.

There are quadrillions of javascript tutorials on the internet - you should be able to do your own google search, however as usual the w3c ones are awesom
JoseRizal
like allanxiao, i also am interested in learning javascript.
i've found some ebook tutorials, but i'd like to try lynda.com's javascript tutorial - i think it is similar to the "total training" series where a mentor walks you through the various topics.

According to me , its
not at all hard if you know PHP and OOP in PHP.
Very Happy
