List the objects you like having with you for any reason.
Mine:
- motor oil in the trunk
- liquid for cooling system
- bottle of water
- bottle of alcohol
- flashlight
- binoculars
- pen and notebook
- chocolate
- hygienic paper
- umbrella
- coat
- cloth piece
- watering can
- cellphone charger
Some I'd like to have in the car:
- fresh bateries
- defibrillator
- extra t-shirt
Besides the obligatory items such as the extra tyre, fire extinguisher (in Brazil it is obligatory, yet useless), triangle etc.

Absolutely nothing. I car is designed to carry people. Not stuff. Trucks are made to carry stuff
Wow all I have is a extra tire that it comes with some cd's and my cell phone charger who is always plugged in.

Seeing as how I have a truck:
CB radio
World's best flashlight w/about 10 spare batteries
2x Jacks
Tire iron
Air compressor
Spotlight
100+ piece toolkit, with some extras I added into it
5 qt. jug of oil
2 towels (the most usefull thing in the universe)
many bungee cords
Jumper cables
Street map of my area
Shop manual for my truck (haynes repair manual: good stuff)
umbrella
spare bulbs for many of the external lights
paper and a pen (never know when you might want to write somthing down)
tow rope
trailer hitch (yes, I keep it inside, for some reason)
.22 rifle (with spare ammo, et cetera)
hahaha
my cellphone
flashlight
and AAA card!!
in the front of my car i have a lot of CDs, a fire extinguisher, a small selection of tools in the centre console, some old indicators, a phone charger, registration papers, 3 rolls of black tape, more CDs, a concert ticket, a USB extension cable and a bottle opener in the glove box.
in the back there's a UBD (map book), a sleeping bag, a jacket (tweed), more CDs and some rubbish that i'm too lazy to remove.
then in the boot there's 2 subwoofers that take up a lot of space, a large road cone, 2 camp chairs, a spare driveshaft, a spare flywheel, a skateboard, some tools but unfortunately i have no room for a spare wheel.

Are you really planning to be able to replace those on the side of the road, or do they just happen to be in there?
they just happen to be in there, but that said, i could replace them on the side of the road if i ever needed to, given a 10mm spanner, 14mm spanner, 14mm socket, 17mm socket, 19mm socket, ratchet and a breaker bar and something to keep the car off the ground.
Well, it varies if I'm staying around town or venturing a bit further. For normal trips I have:
Pen/paper
cellphone/camera
paperwork (license, insurance, etc)
Jumper cables AND a battery charger
flares
tow strap
work gloves
Hammer
Wire cutters and wire
Pry bar, driver kit, adjustable wrench
Duct Tape
Med kit
local maps
Music (iPod)
2 Diet Cokes (yeah, always!)
Jack and lug wrench
Cell phone charger
flashlight
Binoculars
Oddly, I never carry an umbrella....never owned one, never wanted one.

You've never lived in Florida, I can tell. When it rains here sometimes it rains like it means it.

Believe me, I know rain! Ohio is no desert and I've spent plenty of time in Florida and other coastal areas. It's just that an umbrella always seemed usless to me. In any real down pour you get pretty soaked anyway and I've never figured a good way to hold one while working on anything. I have a water proof poncho in the jeep when it gets colder, but warm rain is not a problem for me.
BTW- that brings up a good point. That list of items changes a bit in cold weather
Salt, shovel, gloves, an old work coat, ice scrapper, and a blanket.
Well, the van isn't mine - it belongs to my buddy Neelix, but I'm the one who basically keeps everything together, so...
All necessary paperwork/documentation
2 pairs of gloves
2 side-window shades
jack & tire iron
several types and sizes of lights/lanterns/flashers - all run via cigarette-lighter
a cigarette-lighter operated cooler/heater
a cigarette-lighter operated heated blanket
an older Rio MP3 player with radio transmitter
cigarette-lighter operated 6-outlet power strip and dropcord
at least 1 of every type of liquid the van might need - oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, stop-slip for belts, antifreeze, washer fluid, can of fix-a-flat, lock/windshield de-icer, etc.
100 feet of rope
tow chain/cables
bungee cords
clipboard, paper, pens, pencils, calculator, ruler, paperclips... basically an office desk drawer in a small plastic container
fully-stocked First Aid kit
3 gallons of water
small box of non-perishable food items and all necessary utensils
small cigarette-lighter operated stove and 2 small cooking pans
several toolkits
jumper cables
battery charger
2 umbrellas
stun gun, pepper spray, baseball bat
complete fuse replacement kit
spare hubcap
bottle of all-purpose cleaner
numerous maps
address book filled with all numbers/addresses of friends, favorite repair shops, etc.
small CD wallet
cigarette-lighter operated police scanner
complete change of clothes for both Neelix & myself
2 pillows
air mattress
cigarette-lighter operated air pump/lantern
paper towels, rags, baby wipes
a couple of bricks
ice scrapers
cigarette-lighter operated portable vacuum
folding sunshield
small trashcan
spare tire (underneath the van)
bag of change for payphone calls
flares & reflective triangles..............
and I've probably forgotten a few things.
That list doesn't include the stuff we routinely carry with us in bags.
As you can tell, we've had lots of vehicle trouble and interesting experiences while traveling in the past.
Needless to say, there isn't much room left for passengers, groceries or anything else, for that matter.
motor oil
hydralics oil (for the steering servo)
intercooler fluid
wind shield fluid
maps
starter cables
gloves
tow rope
ice scraper + brush
a huge CD collection
medical kit
flashlight
some paper and pens
extra clothes (in case the car breals down)
insurance papers
extra fuses
and probably a lot more stuff... but those are the ones I can think of right now.

Man, all I can say is that reading through that list made me think of some very ...er...odd story lines....

i carry
my ipod
gun
kife
black sute
red bandans
cuple of other things i cant say
^Now I know why you call yourself 'devious riders'.
why cuzz i hold shit that i should not
Well, you can tell from my earlier post here that I wouldn't blame you for carrying a gun, but my main reason for saying that would be:
| DeviousRiders wrote: |

That sounds pretty devious to me.
yeah i cant say them if i did i could get charged for 20 yrs of jail time but the gun i need cuzz of the Red Bandana
I carry an un-registered chrome .357 mag revolver.
- CD's
- Something for 'protection'.
- Something for 'sexual protection'
- Engine Oil
- Wheel Brace (acts as another 'chib'
)
- Jack
- A sheet to lie on
- Tools
I do all the work on my car myself, so carrying stuff to avoid getting Mr AA man out to tow me home, isnt a problem
so do i but i dont need a tow truck at all when i break down cuzz i own one and that my homie will come get me so i dont have to fix my car on the side of the road

I'm not impressed. Anyone else?
Lots of good stuff here. I think the ground cloth is a great idea that I'm gonna add to my kit. There has been a few times when I need to get under the vehicle in the mud and that was just awful. For a couple of bucks I can pick up a plastic drop cloth that would fit the bill nicely and not take up any real space.
The CB is something I tend to leave at home except when traveling, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to add also. The cellpone is great, but sometimes I just want to know what is going on down the road. Do other countries have a simliar type of unlicensed radio for personal use?
Here's my "kit":
TV, laptop, PDA, cell phone, charger, your mom, water, flashlight, shirts, pants, jackets, couple chairs, i'm a mobile bartender.
I gotta dead body in the trunk, wanna see it, **** around and you'll be it.
But no, I've got a ton of crap in my car, that when I need it, it comes in handy, but that's not very often.
How many of you guys live in the city?
I don't own a car but my parents have er a towel in the boot (trunk) and some cups maybe and a spanner. That's it. You guys have like survival kits, where do you drive?
First Aid Kit
Blanket
Spare Fuses
Shovel
Engine Fluids
Flashlight
Flares/Reflective Devices
Tool Kit
Extra Fan Belt (serpentine)
Water
Fire Extinguisher
Jumper Cables
Duct or Electrical Tape
Jack/Lugnut Wrench
Spare Tire (properly inflated)
Sand, Cat Litter (winter)

Lol, i drive all over the place, but have been in a good few situations to know what i need to carry!
I used to live bang in the city centre, now i just a 20min drive from the city - but you never know where you'll end up, or who with.
i do live in the city of lawrence but my hood is ****** up
In the trunk, I have a leftover bottle of Mobil 1 from my last oil change, and Golf Bag w clubs.
Sometimes i have my sub Box in there, But my receiver was wired badly by an unnamed company that has a big yellow tag for their sign, I found out way too late and it fried it self. So until i see to getting a new receiver I have extra trunk space for other random stuff. Any suggestions?
Tools, CDs, Laptop, Emergency stuffs...
And main stuff can't leave without...
My NOS tank
mobile phone, cap, money, shades....
cell phone charger
emergency kit in the trunk including jumper cable
roller blades
work stuff (ins. sales)
a change of clothes
baby blanket
Car seat
tennis shoes/dress shoes
CD case
change
Ice Scraper
pepper spray
sunglasses *extra pair*
And something I have thought about for years: Signs with sarcastic comments to hold up in the window for others when they do something stupid to piss me off. lol
I pretty much like to have the same stuff that you put, plus some extra stuff:
- Tools (never know when you'll need to fix something)
- My work clothes
- Map
Funny how much stuff we carry in our cars! lol. Mine is 'full of junk', but its everything has its purpose!
To the guy who said you never know when you might need your tools, totally agree'd, never actually had to use them by the roadside, but if its the choice between fixing something there and then (or getting a friend to bring a part and getting it changed there and then), or paying silly amounts for a tow, while sitting in the freezing cold for hours just to get the car home to fix or replace the part anyway... I know which i'd choose!
Personally, I don't like to carry anything in my car. I only carry people and safety stuff, such as flashlights, fix a flat, etc. I also have a very cool 1952 Dodge M37 that I drive around a little bit. I mostly carry starter fluid when I drive that.
I don't carry ecessive stuff in my car to get rid of rattling,
All I have in my car are:
Cargo net- to secured any thing from the trunk
A set of wrench- incase of any lite problem
A child seat- for my little prince
A sun shade- to get rid of heat when the car is park
That is.

could be a good plan for me! keeping stuff out my car seems to be a problem, things get forgotten about and left at my arse!
at this moment in time, my cars full of empty bottles, jackets, all sorts!
All electromic things like mp3... music... dvds and of course my skateboard!!

well, this topic has inspired me to go clean my car out today, wish me luck!
spare tire, loose change, I-Pod, map of local area (dunno y I have one if I get lost most likely its not going to be local!), jacket, and umbrella
first aid kit.... pretty much
My ipod... my skateboard!!! alll my music!! tools... friends and girls!!!!
yeahh right!!
don't know about any of you guys, but I drive a high-mileage car (200,000+), and all the tools I keep in my trunk definately let me feel a lot easier. Here goes:
screwdrivers (phillips & flat)
socket wrench set
flashlight (/w & w/o batteries)
pliers
needle-nose pliers
vice-grips
digital multimeter
sun-glasses
solder gun & solder
Jack stands
a funnel
sum other stuff I can't remember,
---and, of course---
DUCT TAPE!!!
The funny thing is is that out of all those tools, the only one that has really saved my car from the side of the road is duct tape lol. Blew a water hose a couple times, & just threw some tape on it. It works quite effectively believe me.
Other than tools,
Car instruction manual (yep still got that)
Insurance info & registration
maintenance logs on the car
cell phone charger
pens
post-it notes
cell phone case
sticky velcro
extra deoderant
engine oil
wax
polish
terri-cloth towels
CD-case
some other stuff i'm sure.
yeah I live outta my car - gotta be prepared for life

see, that list is just being overly accurate!

sun glasses
spare change
CDs
in the winter I add
hats, gloves, boots, socks, change of clothes, blanket, sleeping bag, chocolate bars, water
