My name is Cocaine
(anon)
My name is Cocaine - call me Coke for short.
I entered this country without a passport.
Ever since then I've made lots of scum rich.
Some have been murdered and found in a ditch.
I'm more valued than diamonds, more treasured than gold.
Use me just once and you too will be sold.
I'll make a schoolboy forget his books.
I'll make a beauty queen forget her looks.
I'll take renowned speaker and make a bore.
I'll take a mother and make here a wh0re.
I'll make a schoolteacher forget how to teach.
I'll make a preacher not want to preach.
I'll take all your rent money and you'll get evicted.
I'll murder your babies or they'll be born addicted.
I'll make you rob and steal and kill.
When you're under my power you have no will.
Remember my friend my name is " Big C ".
If you try me just one time you may never be free.
I've destroyed actors, politicians and many a hero.
I've decreased bank accounts from millions to zero.
I make shooting and stabbing a common affair.
Once I take charge you won't have a prayer.
Now that you know me what will you do ?
You'll have to decide, It's all up to you.
The day you agree to sit in my saddle.
The decision is one that no one can straddle.
Listen to me, and please listen well.
When you ride with cocaine you are headed for hell !!!

It is spamming if you did not write the poem yourself. Did you write the poem of did you copy it from somewhere else?

For the most part they are mine, but I also post ones that I like Smile like the one after this post

Quote:
If
by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son

Just put the poem in QUOTE tags to make sure no one calls you a spammer. IMO, sharing good poems with other people is worth 4 points. It's all about context.
Hobbit
They'll also call you a spammer if you double post, the two posts were completely unecessary.

You
With the twisted mind
Chill out and find
A new direction
And you
With the righteous tongue
Swallow that gun
Drop your obsession
And you
In your headstrong way
Comes judgement day
Brace confrontation

You rob you rant and rave
Driven by the limelight you crave
You feed insanity
Stop!
Insanity must stop

You
With the haunted soul
Out of control
With your fixation
And you
With the sharpened sword
Your action short
Of true compassion
And you
With the burning flame
Your vicious game
Halts liberation

You spike you burn and bomb
Worship your hell without a qualm
You feed insanity
Stop!
Insanity must stop

You
Who are crying wolf
Look at yourself
See your reflection
And you
With the heart of steel
You fail to feel
Your own creation
And you
With the harmful deeds
You're sowing seeds
Of pure destruction

You plot you kill and hide
A coward centuries behind
You feed insanity
Stop!
Insanity must stop
Stop! Stop! Stop!

posting poem seems like spamming, but also doesn't seem like, i don't know....share a chinese ancient poem with you:
Quote:
When will the moon be clear and bright?

¡¡¡¡With a cup of wine in my hand, I ask the blue sky.

¡¡¡¡I don't know what season it would be in the heavens on this night.

¡¡¡¡I'd like to ride the wind to fly home.

¡¡¡¡Yet I fear the crystal and jade mansions are much too high and cold for me.

¡¡¡¡Dancing with my moon-lit shadow

¡¡¡¡It does not seem like the human world

¡¡¡¡The moon rounds the red mansion Stoops to silk-pad doors

¡¡¡¡Shines upon the sleepless Bearing no grudge

¡¡¡¡Why does the moon tend to be full when people are apart?

¡¡¡¡People may have sorrow or joy, be near or far apart

¡¡¡¡The moon may be dim or bright, wax or wane

¡¡¡¡This has been going on since the beginning of time

¡¡¡¡May we all be blessed with longevity Though far apart, we are still able to share the beauty of the moon together.

I'm not sure if this topic is spam or not, but I am pretty sure it is in the wrong place. So, I'm moving it to Literature.

To help keep this thread from being killed as spam, I'd like to ask two things of you all.

1) USE QUOTE TAGS! This is not optional. Also, make sure you tell us who wrote it.

2) When you post a poem, add a few lines about WHY you like it. Give us some insight into why you posted it.

Another mod may see this differently and close this.

What can I say, well just what Time is it??

Quote:
Time

I'd like to be like time, it doesn't stop it keeps on tickin'
You can break the clock in half, and it would still keep kickin'.

Time does not put on the breaks when pushed ahead an hour
It does it wether beggars, kings, or anything will scower.

It moves on like a frieght train, sounding it's horn each day
Running over anyone who dares get in it's way.

I'd like to be like time, yet just a lot more kind.
I want to have it's bravery, and dauntless frame of mind.

A fire hydrant inside a grain of sand
Sometimes a somewhat mitochondrial fairy flies into a rage,
but the college-educated corporation always completely avoids contact with a fundraiser! Sometimes some sheriff for a mortician prays, but the magnificent cowboy always is a big fan of an asteroid! Some defendant is righteous. The cosmopolitan traffic light single-handledly secretly admires some tattered tabloid. An asteroid over an ocean. Most people believe that a food stamp figures out a cowboy, but they need to remember how hesitantly an inexorably surly skyscraper gets stinking drunk. When the bullfrog reads a magazine, a salad dressing around a mastadon procrastinates. A briar patch is phony. An ocean, a vacuum cleaner over a corporation, and a blood clot of the buzzard are what made America great! When a parking lot goes to sleep, the power drill laughs out loud.

LOL.

I've always been a fan of nonsense, for example, Jabberwocky and some select artists (A squid eating dough inside a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous. You got me?) but I think that is a new watermark (high, low?) for styled gibberish Laughing

Did you put it in quotes becuase you weren't sure you wanted to claim it?

Honeslty, I hate poetry... but I am really awesome at writing it! Kinda weird...

I just had to remove a couple of posts in this topic. Please, guys, if we want to keep this topic open there are some things we must be careful about.

1) USE QUOTE TAGS IF THE WORK IS NOT YOUR OWN. This rule applies to all of Frihost. Ignoring this rule can get you banned.

2) Post some original thought when you post someone elses work. Simply copying and pasting is considered spam here. Tell us why you posted it, what it means to you, why you like it (or dont like it). If poetry affects you enough to enjoy it, you must be able to put a few sentences together to tell us about it.

3) Post replies! Like/dislike a posted poem? Add your thoughts.

If this topic becomes mostly pastes with out any original thinking, it will be closed.

That out of the way, how about some Hiaku?

Ive always like the simplicity and, at the same time, the depth of the 3 simple lines in haiku.

Quote:

"Poetically Pathetic"

Thinking of the words to say,
I'd like to think that this was fate.
Reference to a song you love,
Spell confusion with a 'k'.
Like a star without its strings,
I'm hanging here on these two wings.
For that smile and those eyes...(I'm falling)

If time could stop, how could I make this more poetic?
When there's nothing more pathetic to be said...

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside.
You carry truth, you make me smile.
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you,
For you...

If you ever had the chance,
Would you make your life seem right?
Or would you only hold it back,
The good times, the hard, and the bad.
Whatever you say is alright,
Just as long as there's no doubt.
Could you look me in the eyes...(And say hopes died)

If time could stop, how could I make this more poetic?
When there's nothing more pathetic to be said...

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside.
You carry truth, you make me smile.
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you.

Our wish,
Each time,
Keeps me returning to you,
Night after night...
Lift me up as high as the clouds that warm the sky,
For you and I...

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside.
You carry truth, you make me smile,
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you...

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside...
You carry truth, you make me smile,
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you,
For you...

This girl i knew needed some shelter
She don't believe anyone can help her
Shes doing so much harm
Doing so much damage
But you don't want to get involved
You tell her she can manage
And you cant change the way she feels
But you can put your arms around her

I know you wanna live yourself
Could you forgive yourself
If you left her just the way you found her

I stand in front of you
Ill take the force of the blow
Some protection
I stand in front of you
Protection

Your a boy and i am a girl
But you know you can lean on me
And i don't have no fear
Ill take on any man in here
Who says that's not the way it should be

Ill stand in front of you
Ill take the force of the blow
Protection

Shes a girl and your a boy
Sometimes we look so small
Got a baby of your own
When your babies gone
She will be the one to catch you when you leave
She will stand in front of you
To take the force of this blow
Protection

Sometimes you look so small
Need some shelter
Just running round and round
Heads a scattered

And i leaned on you for years
Now you can lean on me
That's more then you will ever know
That's the way it should be

I cant change the way you feel
I can only put my arms around you
That's part of the deal
That's the way i feel
Ill put my arms around you
And stand in front of you
To take the force of this blow
Ill step aside to protect you

Weird Al Yankovic - White and Nerdy

You see me mowin' my front lawn
I know they're all thinkin' I'm so
White and nerdy

Think I'm just too white and nerdy
Think I'm just too white and nerdy
Can't you see I'm white and nerdy
Look at me I'm white and nerdy

I wanna roll with the gangstas
But so far they all think I'm too
White and nerdy

Think I'm just too white and nerdy
Think I'm just too white and nerdy
I'm just too white and nerdy
Really, really white and nerdy

First in my class here at MIT
Got skills, I'm a champion at D&D
M.C. Escher, that's my favorite M.C.
Keep you're 40, I'll just have an Earl Grey tea
My rims never spin, to the contrary
You'll find that they're quite stationary
All of my action figures are cherry
Stephen Hawking's in my library

My MySpace page is all totally pimped out
Got people beggin' for my top eight spaces
Yo, I know pi to a thousand places
Ain't got no grills but I still wear braces
I order all of my sandwiches with mayonnaise
I'm a wiz at Minesweeper, I could play for days
Once you see my sweet moves, you're gonna stay amazed
My fingers movin' so fast I'll set the place ablaze

There's no killer app I haven't run (run)
At Pascal, well I'm number one (one)
Do vector calculus just for fun
I ain't got a gat, but I got a soldering gun (what?)
Happy Days is my favorite theme song
I could sure kick your butt in a game of ping pong
I'll ace any trivia quiz you bring on
I'm fluent in JavaScript as well as Klingon

Here's the part I sing on...

You see me roll on my Segway
I know in my heart they think I'm
White and nerdy

Think I'm just too white and nerdy
Think I'm just too white and nerdy
Can't you see I'm white and nerdy
Look at me I'm white and nerdy

I'd like to roll with the gangstas
Although it's apparent I'm too
White and nerdy

Think I'm just too white and nerdy
Think I'm just too white and nerdy
I'm just too white and nerdy
How'd I get so white and nerdy

I been browsin', inspectin' X-Men comics
You know I collect 'em
The pens in my pocket, I must protect them
My ergonomic keyboard never leaves me bored
Shoppin' online for deals on some writable media
I edit Wikipedia
I memorized Holy Grail really well
I can recite it right now and have you R-O-T-F-L-O-L

I got a business doing websites (websites)
When my friends need some code, who do they call?
I do HTML for 'em all
Even made a homepage for my dog, yo
I got myself a fanny pack
They were havin' a sale down at The Gap
Spend my nights with a role of bubble wrap
Pop, pop - hope no one sees me gettin' freaky

I'm nerdy in the extreme
Whiter than sour cream
I was in AV club and glee club
And even the chess team
Only question I ever thought was hard
Was "Do I like Kirk or do I like Picard?"
Spend every weekend at the Renaissance Faire

Got my name on my underwear They see me strollin', they're laughin'
And rollin' their eyes cause I'm so
White and nerdy

Just because I'm white and nerdy
Just because I'm white and nerdy
All because I'm white and nerdy
Holy cow, I'm white and nerdy

I wanna bowl with the gangstas
But oh well, it's obvious I'm
White and nerdy

Think I'm just too white and nerdy
Think I'm just too white and nerdy
I'm just too white and nerdy
Look at me I'm white and nerdy

In the interest of providing a poem that can be discussed in a somewhat scholar and academic manner I give you this:
Quote:

So we'll go no more a-roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.

For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul wears out the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And love itself must rest.

Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Yet we'll go no more a-roving
By the light of the moon."

-Lord Byron

I ran across this poem in the middle of a science fiction short story by Ray Bradbury believe it or not. Even though I may not approve of Byron's activities, I can certainly appreciate the feeling that he put into this poem; a kind of recognition of reality, not entirely in a depressive mood and not in resignation, but an acceptance of how things are and a thankfulness of how things were.

Fade

Pain and boredom are the same.
Just enough to stay awake
Any means in your horizon
Take the freedom of escape
And just throw it all away
It burns so bright you'll cry your eyes out.
Fade…. and watch you slip away
No looking back
It's time to let you go
Fade… away
And all I want
Is to need a reason to believe in.
Pain and boredom are the same
Another bitter pill to take
Is there any love that's real
Or am I wasting time
Is showing on you face
You bend the edges till they break
You just throw it all away
Watching is enough to make you
Fade…. and watch you slip away
No looking back its time to let you go
Fade…. away
And all I want
Is to need a reason to believe in
It's not enough just leaving you alone
I close my eyes to everything I know
Why can't I let you go…..
Let you go…..

"How powerful are the words of the soul in hell
Where does that put you?
In their spell, under their thumb, in hell.
Take hold of yourself and break that spell
Love yourself, till death do you part.
Take the knife from your back
Bury it.
Heal your wounds
By loving yourself.
By the grace of God will I love myself
Because he first loved me."

Quote:
Recursus
by Michael Palmer

The voice, because of its austerity, will often cause dust to rise.

The voice, because of its austerity, will sometimes attempt the
representation of dust.

Someone will say, I can't breathe--as if choking on dust.

The voice ages with the body.

It will say, I was shaped by light escaping from a keyhole.

Or, I am the shape of that light.

It will say, For the body to breathe, a layer must be peeled away.

It will say, What follows is a picture of how things are for me now.

It will say, The rose is red, twice two is four--as if another were
present.

The dust rises in spirals.

It will say, The distance from Cairo to anywhere is not that great.

As if one had altered the adjustment of a microscope.

Or examined its working parts.

Possibly an instrument covered with dust and forgotten on a shelf.

Beside a hatbox and a pair of weathered boots.

The voice will expand to fill a given space.

As if to say, This space is not immeasurable.

This space is not immeasurable.

When held before your eyes.

And which voice is it says (or claims to say), Last night I dreamt of
walls and courses of brick, last night I dreamt of limbs.

As you dream--always unwillingly--of a writing not visible and voices
muffled by walls.

As if the question: lovers, prisoners, visitors.

The voice, as an act of discipline or play, will imitate other voices.

This is what I am doing now.

This is what I'm doing now.

The clock behind my back, its Fusee mechanism.

Voice one recognizes from years before.

Beneath water, hidden by a spark.

Here at the heart of winter, or let's say spring.

Voice with a history before its eyes.

History of dust before its eyes.

It will say, as if remembering, The letter S stands for a slow match
burning.

On the table before me.

No numbers on this watch.

And I live in a red house that once was brown.

A paper house, sort of falling down.

Such is the history of this house.

It looks like this.

Looks just like this.

We think to say in some language.

Good read Smile , ran across it today.

Quote:

Alone

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires
With money they can't use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely
I'll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

And now, unveil'd, the Toilet stands display'd,
Each Silver Vase in mystic Order laid.
First, rob'd in White, the Nymph intent adores
With Head uncover'd, the cosmetic Pow'rs.
A heav'nly Image in the Glass appears,
To that she bends, to that her Eyes she rears;
Th' inferior Priestess, at her Altar's side,
Trembling, begins the sacred Rites of Pride.
Unnumber'd Treasures ope at once, and here
The various Off'rings of the World appear;
From each she nicely culls with curious Toil,
And decks the Goddess with the glitt'ring Spoil.
This Casket India's glowing Gems unlocks,
And all Arabia breathes from yonder Box.

The Tortoise here and Elephant unite,
Transform'd to Combs, the speckled and the white.
Here Files of Pins extend their shining Rows,
Puffs, Powders, Patches, Bibles, Billet-doux.
Now awful Beauty puts on all its Arms;
The Fair each moment rises in her Charms,
Repairs her Smiles, awakens ev'ry Grace,
And calls forth all the Wonders of her Face;
Sees by Degrees a purer Blush arise,
And keener Lightnings quicken in her Eyes.
The busy Sylphs surround their darling Care;
These set the Head, and those divide the Hair,
Some fold the Sleeve, while others plait the Gown;
And Betty's prais'd for Labours not her own.

This is an excerpt from the first canto of Alexander Pope's "The rape of the lock". I posted this to let you guys see that you might be pleasently surprised by epic poetry. At first, i had to read this for class and thought it was going to be more of an annoyance than anything else. However, as i was reading, I actually found myself giggling (at an 18th century poem, can you beleive it?).

This excerpt is about an aristocratic woman getting her make-up applied...

My favourite line.. "cosmetic powers!" hehe

How do I know me?
How do I see into tomorrow?
How can I know what decision to make?
How can I dare ask questions that everyone must deal with?
What makes me special?
Why do I deserve an answer?
Why should I even ask?
Why does it matter anyways?
Does it matter anyways?
Do I even care?
Do I need to care?
Do I have to make a decision?
Do I shut off my brain?
How do I shut off my brain?

i believed your lies and deciet
oblivious to my very needs
you make me tremble and ache
as if my heart wont break
you live this fiction of a life
the way you believe it should be
you'll rot in your own misery

Quote:
Our hearts dance slow circles
Like the hands of a clock turn;
Ticking time slowly, so slowly.
Together we sit on Mount Love.
With our legs hung over the tip,
Of that so tall mountain.
It was a long climb up
Some moments happy, some hard.
But we made it and I know
Neither of us could have done it alone.
It was a team effort, so I give you my love.
Like you've given me yours
And it will stay enternal.
As long as neither of us go over the edge.
Place your feet on the surface.
You dont have to let them hang anymore.
Theres no need to hang onto me.
I know I love you; vise versa.
It's time for us to let go.
But instead of going over the edge I will climb.
I will climb down that mountain so enternal our love stays.
Vast memories are my only motive.

One of my best, yet older poems.

The feel of the skin, the touch of the flesh
the blood is warm, your blood is fresh
in love, in lust its all the same
to let this one pass would be a shame.

Once I saw its radient glow, I knew what I wanted
With your radient skin, perfect figure... you taunted
Flaunted all the things I desired, now I must have it.
You can't escape me now.

A rush for me, your arms are binded
the first few drinks and now youre blinded
cross my heart, I love tonight
Should have noticed. Please put up a fight.

struggle baby struggle, it makes me feel better.
When you leave tonight I'll remember you.
tears on my pillow and blood in the sheets.
I do anything to take all of your sweets.
I'm in love, can't you tell
You're body charms me, Your sexy shell.

Scream for help or scream for me
Pull away, but can't you see
I'm in love. I'm in love.
It elevates, lets celebrate
I'm chasing you through the halls
Don't run away from me, I love you.
Down the staircase you fall.

Blue and red lights all night tonight.
tomorrow night's new dim light threw off my sight
And I cause no fright. Another bite. She's like you.
I'm in love again.

I like your poems and I don't think this is spam! I compose poems myself, but I could never publish them! Smile I'm glad not everyone's like me, so that people can read something nice, from time to time!

Just in case you didn't know
I'm in pain for I love you so
You seem so far, I want you near
My heart longs to have you here

Give me strength, give me love
Let us fit like hand to glove
Let us share all our days
Showing our love in different ways

Touch your lip, do not speak
Lay a kiss upon my cheek
Let our souls become as one
Until another day's begun

Never utter a slow goodbye
My heart to ache, a tear to cry
A chance of love to destroy my soul
I played the part, I'll take the toll

Pry my heart rip the seal
Unable to hide the things I feel
I wrote this poem just for you
To tell you that my love is true

I think of you more often than you know. Couldn't let another day go by without taking time to let you know...

here is mine,
Quote:

It was dark, congested and cold.
Faces half masked by darkness,
with a glistening set of eyes scrutinizing my every inch.
Waiting, i saw someone familiar, he smiled, i smiled.

I came out,
half satisfied.
Took a drench, the palpitating sound of shower on my head brought me some place else.
I stepped out, hunting, or rather, get hunted, again.

I went in again,
the same masked faces,
the same glistening eyes.

The smell of primal meat,
of dry perspiration.
The sound of hunters,
and hunted......

Most of my poems are in mostly Swedish (there might be some bits from other langauges...)

like this one:

Code:

[b]Sången om slaget mellan Hermundr och Ásný  [/b]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Där brödets frö skulle stå
hirdar stod man mot man
sköldar stänktes med blod
blod på svärden stod

Där drycken man rumlat
När hird mötte hird
Hermundr ödet sitt kommen
Hermundr blev hrafn festen

Hermundr bröder hög ner
Geirunnr sitt hämde pris
Ack sorg över vacker mö
som kom att dö

Av anledningen ingen vet
Viði Jarl red om kornets fält
innan svor broder ed om hämd
innan svor syster ed om hämd

Viði Jarl en klock man
fick hirdens ledare svära ed
om fred att komma framtid
inget blod att spilla i tid

but some are in English:

like this one:

Code:

[b]Truth in love [/b]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh days!
When does fall
her golden locks
fairest maiden tall

Oh love!
Such we never see
Now we long for her
to meet her air

Oh truth!
You alone knows
of beauty's truth
that love never waits

and some I have translated like this one:

Code:

The city remembers
--------------------
It is night
and the city remembers
all it's thousands
loving couples

that slowly fondle
her streets and
played in the parks and the ocean
that are her
breast and womb

and when the city wakes
she pretends to sleep and
enjoys how the humans
yet again fondles themselves through
her complete body that
always shakes with desire

And every night and every day
is for her the steamy little death
where loneliness actually don't exist
and she loves every human that
fills her with joy and
she wants to giveback her whole self

droop,
i think that question was for me?
if it was,
i was inspired by a personal experience.
probably not that convenient to share here,
but my style of writing for this was quite sexual and animalistic,
so you can guess. hah.

I'll make you rob and steal and kill.

that is my favorite part
