MySQL, ports?

Darkfall
Okay, I've been using MySQL for a while now and had no problems with it but ever since I installed it on my laptop along with Apache and PHP (I'm using it as a temporary 24/7 Fileserver with website) whenever I try to log onto MSN Messenger with it (I'm using it for client requests) it seems to disconnect MSN upon it logging in.

How would I go about changing the ports it uses for outbound and inbound connections?

By changing the my.cnf option file. See http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/option-files.html

But please make sure that is what you really want.
Changing the port from 3306 to something else probably will not solve your problem (which I seem unable to understand).

Do you try to log on to MSN with MySQL? ?????
I'd like to see that. Do you have some code you care to share?

This situation is practically impossible to reproduce. The operating system should have chosen a random, unused port for your MSN Messenger. Both applications shouldn't clash. I think the problem is caused by a problem with the MSN server. I keep getting frequent disconnections too, and I frequently could not connect. So I think the problem doesn't lie with MySQL.
