Googles new word processor
This is one more google milestone. Past few months they introduced lot of new features like http://spreadsheet.google.com (Free online spreadsheet like excel ), online stores, merchant account (now open to US citizens only). Now Online Word processor.....
But all these new features are in beta!? (including gmail). Anyway Now google is not only a search engine.

this is part of Google's plan to beat ms office, Microsoft needs it cause they don't got much competition.

Yeah but you can't blame Microsoft for being how they are, Office is pretty good. I uploaded a word document I made today to Writely and it lost all the formatting.

I didn't blame anyone, I said office doesn't have tough competition yet. Office 07 is great, but would you rather a free web based app (no hard drived space used) or pay ~800$ to use up 15gb of hdd space.

Actually there is already a viable alternative to Microsoft Office and it is called OpenOffice.org. It is free, have nearly all the features of MS office( Excel, Powerpoint, Word blah blah blah) are all there on OpenOffice.org.
I mean I don't have access to the internet while I am outside and online data processing( Google's) does not help in such situation and a 100% offline office application suite like OpenOffice.org is far better.
I have already ditched MS office for quite a while.
OpenOffice is great, but it lacks one thing that writely allows you to do - store things online, which is good if you need to write a report for school and don't have the time to do it all in school, and then you can go home and finish it there. If your school chooses to use macs this is a nice option because with these new fangled macs they don't have a dang floppy drive and you have to waste CD space on a report unless you're going to waste money on a CD-RW to write reports when you can do it all for free.
Soon we will have.......
a Google OS.

I don't know but it seem simple for me to email document written on OpenOffice to my own yahoo! or gmail account for storage... in fact there is an icon on the openoffice.org toolbar for doing so.
Excellent, they've taken up so many things it's great... every one is pure quality. I need to bookmark this so I can try it later.
