Could anyone tell me the best operating system to pick and why? Thanks, i dont mind about any pricing issues.

Thats depends what you want to do with it.
WinXP is good for: Gaming & apps support, stability, ease of use
Mac OSX is good for: Elegance, features, quality
Linux (eg. ubuntu) is good for: Price, speed, stability
WinVista (when its out) is good for: Gaming, features, appearance
My oppinion: Get XP - its faster than OSX and Vista, and does everything an OS should be expected to do.
