I've heard that Blaze Media Pro is pretty good. You will always suffer some quality loss though.

If you just want to reduce the video size, regardless of the output file format, you should try DivX or XviD ( or maybe even a newer h.264/AVC compressor if you are feeling adventurous. Very Happy )

If you want to create a smaller mpeg, you should try something like TMPGEnc or bbMPEG.

DivX is good, no doubt. But I don't think it is a lossless codec.

It doesnt depend on software, it depends on the codec.
For software I use virtuadub.
Codec : Vp7 ( www.on2.com )

The best bet in converting MPEG would be to AVI . Its quite smaal and still the qulaity is not compromised.

I use Dr Divx for converting mpeg to avi. Though its not a free software.
You have to buy it.
My friend cracked it for me Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad

i downloaded and installed Xvid already,
it;s kind of wield question for me,
how can i re-encoded the mpeg files then ??

thanks,
sush
Unless you use a lossless codec, you cannot cut filesizes short without losing quality, although with the right settings the loss wont be very noticeable. A lossless codec won't give you drastic cuttings in filesize. Neither XviD nor DivX are lossless codecs.

Once you have the codec you will need an application that uses these codecs to edit video files. My best bet would be VirtualDub (google for it). Take a look through the help files.
