FTP issues...

adredwood
Hello, i seem to be having some problems with connecting to the server here. I connected through dreamweaver's built in file uploader and through filezilla, but they both kicked me out within a second of connecting. Im guessing this means that i have the settings right, so is there something im missing?

For the benefit of those in the know ill include the output from filezilla -

Status: Connecting to ftp.adredwood.frih.net ...

Dreamweaver is giving me much the same - an FTP error has occurred, cannot get remote folder information. Dreamweaver encountered an internal data error - etc. Have tried both programs many times and the same thing occurs - does this sound familar to anyone?

Once again advance thanks to anyone who can help,

Andy

does it do that straight away or after a while it disconnects?
adredwood
Pretty much straight away, there might be a second's gap but that's about it.

set up another ftp for me to test if you want, could be something to do with your computer or internet
adredwood
Im sorry ive not much idea how to do that - how would i go about setting up an FTP for you to test?

Thanks,

Andy

um if youre on server to go to ftp management in direct admin and do it from there. it would be similar in cpanel
adredwood
Ok, im with you all the way up to directadmin... bit clueless about this stuff im afraid, kind of new - im in ftp management of directadmin but not sure what to do from there, there doesnt appear to be a new ftp button or anything. Sorry, know there's stupidity on my part here, just need a few more breadcrumbs (:

Thanks again,

Andy

Your output says your are connecting in passive mode and it's been said that there is a problem connecting in passive. You should change it to active then you'll be doin fine.
adredwood
Ok, will try to set that up through the panel tomorrow. Oh, and i tried toggling active/passive already im afraid. Thanks for your help guys, will let you know the results of my meddling soon...

Guys, I was using Smart FTP to connect to my FTP account earlier. It worked fine and I uploaded part of my site.

But now, this error comes .... It kicks me out of FTP within 21 milliseconds !!!!

From what I followed in this thread, I disabled passive mode (I didn't even notice that option earlier when everything was working fine)
Still the same thing happens.
I'm able to transfer files using DirectAdmin's filemanager (i'm on server 2)

Is this a problem with any settings on my computer ? I had installed Apache server on my computer to test my website's php, but I shut down the server before I tried connecting.
