Money laying on the ground.

qbawler311
What's the most amount of money that you found just laying on the ground?

One time I found a hundred dollar bill at a parking lot, getting blown around by the wind. I also saw one on the floor of a casino just sitting there. While paying for gas, I found 60 bucks on the ground. While at the grocery I found 20 bucks. One time I saw a 20 dollar bill fly out of a car that was turning left very fast. Seemed like the driver was oblivious to it as he just kept driving away.

But the biggest one I ever saw were three 100 chips that I found on a casino floor. There wasn't even anyone there.

Do you have any free money stories?
Josso
Oh not really, only about £20 outside our house randomly on the pavement. That was best thing I've ever found Laughing
Ghost Rider103
I found a peny laying in the parking lot one time. Laughing

When I was little I found a $2 Dollar bill on the ground near a store, and guess what was the first thing I did. I didn't know $2 Dollar bills were hard to find but I would still proberly go and spend it. But the most I ever found was like 50 Dollar bill in this train I was on, I guess someone just took out there wallet or purse and it just dropped out. But that was the luckiest day of my life becuase I was broke and was just waiting for the end of the week for that check.

I found a tenner just laying there in a garage once and my friend found a fiver rolled up in a tenner! This is a major subliminal message. Please email me if you find it as I think it is really cool. My email address is the-master@supanet.com Anyway Congratulations if you found this as I really did think that no one would ever find it and it would be one of those things on the internet that no one will ever find like one of those free sites that no one ever visits. Not like ones made on this site they are cool!!!

I have never found any money - but I've found tons of pencils. Very Happy
David_Pardy
I found an African 1cent coin in a car at the wreckers I was getting parts out of (I live in Australia)

I kept it until some guy decided to take drugs and flog all the shiny coins out of my special coin jar Sad.

When I was working in England, I found a £20 note under a table I was cleaning once (waitressing). Nothing more exciting than that, but it's a small consolation that £20 is worth than $20 Smile.
ArmaghBhoy
I once found £20 when out buying beers, which got me LOTS of extra beer!

are u foreigners (foreign to india Very Happy) so careless about your money and so watchful of other's money?? Laughing Laughing

Man Exclamation Exclamation it sounds like you have a ‘gift’ or something for finding money, good on you. The most I’ve picked up was a twenty rand note. This was long ago when the rand was worth about seventy American cents. Today South African currency is so worthless you’ll find coins up to twenty cents lying everywhere. It’s worth so little nobody bothers picking them up. Something no-one here has realized is that the copper in a five cent coin is worth a lot more than five sents.
coolclay
Yea I am an avid money finder myself. I have found 2 $20's and a $10 wrapped up in my school cafetaria. I have found a $20 outside of a gas station. A $1 blowing across the road. $40 just randomly in the middle of a grassy field.

My brother and me found RM 50. I found RM 10 a coupld of time. Just lying on the ground.

Rm 3.8 = USD 1.0.

My brother found a PDA at an airshow once, that was cool. We tried to contact the person who owned it but they never ever replied?!? It's still sitting in a box somewhere, it wasn't a very good one but would a couple of hundred at least.

I also found a wallet at a fair, it had ~$300 AUD in it, no ID in there nothing. I gave it to the security people and I never heard another word about it, guess where the money is? Oh I wonder, security?

Finding cash is awesome though, somebody has lost it but hey I've dropped a dollar (we have coins for one dollar) before and nobody gave mine back! But largely I think I've found more than I've lost.
hlavco
I'm usually pretty good at finding money on the ground. I look down all the time (maybe I have bad posture, I dunno, but I just naturally look down while I'm walking). Once I found $20 on the floor in school, and used it to pay back my friend who I owed. Unfortunately, he had forgotten that I owed him any money, so I could've just kept it in the first place. Why am I such a nice person? Mad

Anyway, I think I've found two other twenties at times, and some fives and singles. Once I found a ring, it's sitting in my room right now, but it looks kinda cheap and probably isn't worth much.

Oh, and I've been curious about this for a while: Do computers in England have that £ sign on the keyboard above the 4 where the $ would be? I figure it would make sense, but I just wanna be sure.
Victus13
I've found money from time to time just laying on the ground.

I dont often find stray cash, I've found my fair share of wallets. I found one with over 2000$ CAD one time. I ended up finding the guys Phone number and giving it back.

He gave me 500$. He said I' earned it. He told me that even he would have pocketed the cash before giving the wallet back.Laughing
Yazz
Once found a Loonie on the floor. Never any bills. I would not keep the money, unless there were people nearby whom it may belong to.
generalgazz
never found more than £1.
must be unlucky Smile

LOL some people are realy kind and realy unlucky my view is that if sombody is carless enough not to check there pockets every time they move after been sat down or dont check if theve had there hands in and out of there pockets all day, they deserver to loose money... finders keepers i always say when i might gain some money Very Happy in reply to

When I was walking around the store a few years ago, I saw this what looked to be a $50.00 bill, I went back to go to check out with things and picked it up all excited about it then I go and look on the back and it had a advertisement on the back and itwasnt even printed on real paper money and wasnt even a real image of a bill Sad

One day I was walking home from school and I saw a paper bag sitting at the bottom of a gorge. The gorge wasn't big and I was quite curious so I climbed down to the bag. The had 650 dollars in it in 50's. I almost pissed myself but I managed to keep calm enough to climb back up the side of the gorge onto the road. Well when I got to the top, a man in a leather coat an sun glasses approached me without saying anything. His approach freaked me out so I sort of yelled at him "What do you want?" He said "You have my bag, I dropped it in the gorge." The man kept getting closer to me and I knew he was going to try to grab the money no matter what I did or said, which made me curious as to what the money was for. I quickly ran to the edge of the gorge and slid down the wall towards the water. The man started climbing down after me and I just booked it down the gorge to some backwoods and hiked to my house. The nest day I went on a shopping spree and bought a bunch of new clothes. Then I bought an ounce of some dank marijuana and flipped it for about 50% profit. I've been building an empire ever since and I am now a millionaire.

You're a funny one lol. But I found a suitcase of cash once, but it was baited with a bomb and it blew up in my face when I was unloading it, now I have half a head.

I found $10 on the stairs in building I lived in when I was very young. hehe, I'm not lucky enough to find a case of cash~

Um, I seriously can't recall any time that I found money on the ground... as in, money to mention. I might have found a few coins, but no bills. Shame though, I gotta keep looking Laughing

Psh.

All I've ever found are a few pound coins. Sad

Usually I found some coins on street, but I've already found a 50 reais (our money in Brazil) bill. It worth something about 20 american dollars. The interesting about it is that I've lost the bill whitout spending it! ¬¬
riv_
Once, when I was flat broke (like HUNGRY broke) i found $10 on the street. The cool thing is, when I went to the school cafeteria and used it to buy a muffin, the cashier gave me change for a $20... and refused to correct her mistake! Now that's a lucky day!
CharKargis Olort
I've found a few $5 bills but nothing major. Mostly change, but I'll pick it up. It all adds up, LOL. I did find a lotto ticket one time that hadn't been claimed, that was $25. So now I look like some weirdo walking around looking at lottery tickets laying on the ground
Mrs Lycos
I once found several (4 or 5) $2 notes in a small roll, and it was nice because i didn't have much on me at that time. Another time, in a store full of people,I paid with a $50 note, and the woman gave me the change and mistook a 10 for a 50, so I got like 75$ back. I noticed it immediately, and gave it back. The woman was very thankful, probably the boss would have taken that out of her salary. I felt fine after that, but now I don't think I'd do it again. not because I need the money, but because I think everyone gets what they deserves. If I were in her position and lost money, I don't think anyone would give it back to me, nor I expect them to.
PatTheGreat42
I found a $10 at the bottom of a pool once. Had to dive down to get it. It was at a hotel in South Carolina, and I was in for an early morning swim. Good times.

<newlife~T>Sounds like you're pretty lucky. The most I had ever found was a $10 bill lying at the base of a row of bushes, along the sidewalk. I don't remember what I did with it--thinking about the topic now, if I ever find that amount or larger, I'm going to try and do something memorable with it.

If fortune led me to finding it, perhaps then it was meant as a sign or an opening to do something potentially transformative with it.

Anyway, the real reason I was motivated to respond was to ask whatever happened to the money found at the casinos? My work is connected with the gambling industry, and I've read that casinos, at least the ones with high security, won't allow people to even take a nickel that's been left on a machine.

I think I found a quarter once. Chances are that I probably dropped it there a couple of seconds before that too.

Other than that, I found a dime once.

I've lost more money than I've ever found.

Funny how they call them "pounds" elsewhere. I guess I'm just not used to it.

The one time I did find a wallet, it had a good $200 in it, just laying under a tire in the parking lot of a grocery store. At the time, I was just a kid and did not know about things like greed and such. So honest me went and turned it into the store clerk, who after making sure I was not looking, pocketed the money. I never thought twice about it, but now that I'm older, I realized I could've done the same thing.

You guys are so lucky finding a money on every where. I hope i have a chance to have a free money. Sad As far as i know, i've only go a half of a dollar. hehehe. that's so cheap. hehehe

I found $100 walking into my school one day. $20 on the ground outside a grocery store. An entire gallon sized bag full of filled change rolls varrying from pennies to quarters… I think it was about $200. I always find change laying around, and a bunch of dollar bills. I just found $10 yesterday.

Here's a good example of this moral dilemma: bought two four packs of bud for £5, there was no deal, there was 0 deals that day... plus I've never seen it before, even when prices weren't as bad. I say "are you sure about that"? expecting no change and she says "yes, look at the receipt". A lot of times I've had people admit they have made a mistake and thanked me not for just walking off. (In the UK I believe once you are handed your change, legally any mistake is null and void and that is your money from that point onwards. You can walk off, even if they realise). BUT if someone stays sure that it was right I'll take some half price beer awesome! Laughing

As far as wallets are concerned, if there's ID in it... send it back, if it's empty take the money.

Also, most money I've ever found? Probably only a fiver. I find random quids all the time though.
vidafenomenal
you are so lucky.jeje.
ProfessorY91
qbawler... You really have a pretty good eye. Sounds like you happen across money on a regular basis. I wish I was that lucky.

Funny story: My school, being a private religiously inclined institution, set up a 'sting operation' of sorts. A group of students in psychology (for who else would be so scientifically devious, than a psychologist), randomly put $20, $50, and $100 bills around the school for people to find, in obvious places. Obviously the bills and the students were watched to see if someone would pick them up AND whether they would keep the bill, or try and turn it in to the nearest information desk / lost and found, etc.

I picked up and attempted to return a $20 bill, and was subsequently told that I could keep it. I have no idea what the study concluded, but I'm too lazy to go look it up.

in the 80s I was on a schooltrip to our capitol Stockholm, in the air a 50 SEK came flying... I grabbet it. that must be like in todays worth 40 dollars... Hm...

It is hard to see money today in the air - card are the paying method.

Yeesh, I haven't found anything more than pennies and nickels on the ground. I tend to ignore them for the most part. In a public place, you never know if someone dropped the money and is looking for it (has happened to me with a $5 bill).

If I actually were to find a large bill on the ground, and was fairly certain nobody would come back for it, I would probably just give it to charity.

However, this thread has just reminded me. I have been meaning to glue a quarter to the sidewalk and just sit back and watch what happens. I figure it might end up being very amusing.

I found the equivalent to... $30? It was 170 'Bolivares' (currency at Venezuela). It was a lot, so I was happy, bought some cookies, coke and still had enough for some mints and a taxi home. Very Happy

I haven't found any huge amount till now. Adding small amount it might be about $5, which is about Rs. 350, Nepali currency.
Robert_Redbeard
The most I have actually found is a twenty dollar bill. But I always make it a point to pick up any amount no matter how small. I have kept track of it this year. In change alone I have picked up about $25. And $10 in paper money.

I would have had to keep about a thousand dollars in the bank to get that in interest alone. So just picking up every bit of money I see on the ground has been at least as good of an investment as the money in the bank.

It's not the stock market. But it's still more than I had to start with. LOL!!!

Just a note. Sitting down town in my old city used to be pretty good for finding money on a weekend night. Drunks bar crawling drop a lot of money.

I found a Gold locket in bus near window it was without a neck chain.
With name Allah on it Wink

I gave it to my mother and she kept it ..
my mother and her brother my uncle were so lucky in their childhood they mostly finds money and they always spend it on buying junk food from restaurants they told me most of their stories those are so exiting !

When I was cleaning out my car after it was totaled after an automobile accident I found a $100 dollar bill that I must have forgot about.

At one of those self checkout lanes at a department/grocery store the machine once gave a $10 bill instead of $1 among it's change

Several years ago I found some money, seen it fall from the person next to me, I didn't look to see who it was and when they walked away I took it, don't remember how much, told my parents, only got to keep a tiny part of it like $20 (they took the rest)

LOL, I'm like a racoon. Anything shiny seems to attract my attention. And of course I investigate. As I have stated already. I find a lot of change. Just wish I had better luck finding paper money.

A few years back a guy found like $30k in cash beside a dumpster in my home town. And what did he do? He turned it into the cops. Why can't I be so lucky? I would have put it to good use rather than give it to the cops who get enough tax money anyway. Hell, around here they just steal it from motorists.
watersoul
I've found paper money twice in my life:
£5 glistening in the morning dew of the grass, outside the hospital on the day my son was born.
£20 on the floor of a local bar one weekend (suspiciously, tightly rolled up)

...I smiled more when I found the £5 note but hey that was already a beautiful day for me Smile
alikakuikaika
ok i have two stories.
When i was around 7 years old, my mom took me to the park. I found two $1 bills and a $10. We then went to the store that same day. I found a $20 in the parking lot, a $5 in the store, and another $20 in the store. all in the same day.

Just a few months ago my friends dad found a bag with $25,000 dollars in it. He turned it into the police... Turned out to be a vacationer's money they recently converted from yen to USD.

recently I found 200rs on my stairs ..
few days back i found a mobile same place but i know whose cell was that so gave it to them ..

but those people I gave mobile cheated me in sharing a utility bill and they were doing that from last two years.. they were stealing electricity from two years and i was paying them for fake units of my share..

recently when they were leaving the house portion i let them transfer their stuff in my Van i went there and i saw a tricky wiring which was bypassing the electricity meter..

I asked them what is that and they started to shouting . then I returned up my home and pissed them in my mind.

Never found anything worth remembering. Probably only coins worth less than a dollar.

I think if it was notes, as some people here are saying, I would start to feel very awkward about picking it up. I'd have the semi-irrational thought that what if someone realised they'd lost it, and tried to come back a minute later?
Hello_World
I've actually been very lucky with this. I have found a lot of money. Many times. The first time I was on a school excursion and I handed it into my teacher, who was supposed to give it back to me unless it was claimed. It wasn't claimed, but I never saw it again.

@Radar - if I did take the money and the person came back, I would just give it to them, it was clearly theirs if they came looking for it. It has never happened though. Otherwise, straight in my pocket now.

One time I was in a car park and I saw $20 on the ground. I picked it up. Then saw another note a little way away. And another. Someone must have had a hole in their pocket? I even waited for that person a little while.

Another time I went to my land before there was a house on it, and a $100 note was lying there. And you hardely even see $100 notes, you only get them direct from the bank, you obviously nver get it in change, you don't get them from ATMs, but there was one just lying there...

I don't know why I have been lucky here. If I was to put any in a pokie machine I'd never see it again, I never win anything at all from those machines. I'm not lucky at all in other areas. Just finding money.

I wish, though, that I had found that money at Balaclava. Does anyone remember that? Someone dug up a stash of money and handed it into the police. Then everyone was down at Balaclava Station trying to find more. And some more was found. It was never claimed. It was returned to the people that found it....

Once I found NRS 3,000.00 (Approx. $ 40) on the road. At that time I was on the way to Office while I saw some money on the road and there was nobody around that. As soon as I saw that money I feel nervous thinking that who's money might be that but there was nobody and I though that that money is mine so I kept that myself.

This was a fun topic.

Of course i found small coins and small valued notes.

But the think i remember the most is, one time i worked for a IT company back in Sweden.
We were at lunch, and this day was special because the years biggest football (soccer) derby in Stockholm was to take place, but it was sold out, and i so wanted to go.

Anyway, on the way back to the office, i spot a envelope on the ground, the envelope that the ticket company uses when they print out your tickets to different events (including this football game).
Before i picked it up, i was like in a "OH THANK YOU GOD"-mode, i thought i found the ticket i needed.

I picked the envelope up, and it felt thick, and then i was like "OHH HOLY CRAP, ITS A BUNCH OF TICKETS!".
I opened it up, and there they were, 12 tickets, but to some damn steamboat concert with some no-name artist.
I was so bummed out, but i looked at the price, and it was like 250SEK (approx $20USD) each, but then i thought, this person who got these, must like this no-name artist, so i called the ticket company, and gave then the order number, and they tracked down the guy.
At this point i left the ticket at the ticket company office.

They did call me back later on, and said that the guy picked them up, not even a "thank you" or a reward was given, i did save the dude 3000SEK (approx $250USD).

But later that day i got my football ticket from another friend, so day was not to bad anyway.

When i think about it, if it had been tickets to the game, i most likely would have taken them, or at least one or 2, but no way im gonna go on a steamboat and look at some no-name artist.

WOW, I have never found any large bills on the ground anywhere you must have a money angel watching over you!

Just saw a movie over the weekend, can't recall the name, but the detective in it was slightly superstitious, and he recommended that one does not pick up coins that are lying face down. So I will bear it in mind next time round.

I used to keep money I find on the ground for myself and spend it (all coins and small bills; I haven't found any large amount). Lately though, I have adopted a "pass it forward" mindset. So I pick it up, keep it with me until I find someone who I think would need it (somebody that I don't know) and give it to that person. Smile

I'm forget how much money i got on the floor on the past. Right now i have no interest taking money lying on the floor. I'm just hoping that the owner found his/her money. If i take the money on the floor i have to ask people around it about the owner of the money. If there is no owner, i can have it but i have to spend some of it to give to the poor. I would rather not take the money and leave the money alone.
