I'm trying to find an online class room type cms

I'm trying to find a cms that will work similar to "BlackBoard". blackboard is used by a lot of universities to administer class assignments and quizes online. is there any CMS in the opensource community that has this kind of functionality? I don't know too much about the cms's available but I know mambo and others like it can have different modules installed.

my brother asked me to develop an academic center cms like this cause he is trying to start offering some kind of online class and wants to be able to administer assignment, grades, quizes, etc through a cms like blackboard. I told him that it would be a lot more feasable to find an opensource cms that already has that kind of functionality.

I would really appreciate it if someone knew of a software like this.
Thanks in advance.

PhpWebSite has the forms feature, which allows you to create quizzes and stuff like that that will report to the mail address of choice. Of course your brother will have to correct everything unless you post the answers on a webpage. You can use its bulletin board to administer the lessons, and maybe an IRC channel(free) from chat4all.org for answering questions.

Hallo, if you use Mambo/Joomla it give you the biggest possebilities around. With the Community Builder Extensions (Component and Modules) it΄s possible to create a vast interactive site. To create quizzes and stuff like that that there are plenty of additional Addons available at this extension site

This should put you in the right direction

Yeah, I was looking for something like mambo. A couple of interesting one that I found was Moodle and sakai.

If it is for a school setting you should use Moodle

what is the best way to get up to speed on moodle. I am looking for that fastest way to get it into my class by this year. I have little time and need to make sure that I spend most of my time on the curriculum and not the tech. tool.

If you have any suggestions I am open to them. Books? Web sites? etc.

Thax Very Happy
