Hello everyone, I have a bit of a favour to ask.
I have a decent (though not complete) background in continental philosophy and was looking to start reading some of the work of Jacques Derrida. I find what I have heard about Derrida compelling, but all too often when I start to read his texts I find myself a bit overwhelmed. Of course being overwhelmed is often a natural part of studying continental philosophy but, as I'm not doing this in an academic setting, I don't have any real guidance with what I'm doing.
So, I come here to ask if people might be able to suggest some of Derrida's work to start with. I do have some knowledge of Heidegger, which as I understand it is fairly essential to reading Derrida, but my background there isn't incredibly thorough (I've read Being and Time and a few of his later essays - The Question Concerning Technology; Poetry, Language, Thought; and a couple others). Is there any other Heidegger I should get under my belt first? Also, I will be reading this in English - I can read some French, but not enough to get me through Derrida - so translated suggestions would be great.
Thanks!
