So I just got a free (broken but fixable) computer on which I am planning to put linux. However with 300+ different distros, as a new user I'm overwhelmed. Which do you guys recommend to be the best for someone who wants a nice graphical interface, sorta like windows, so that I can use it without fiddling with code or having advanced technical knowledge?
linux distro
I use SuSe 10.1 and SLED, both are from Novell. However, I suggest SuSe 10.0 over 10.1 for stability. SLED I believe you need to pay for, however I got it free from work; it has some really awesome XGL support.
Both are very slick in graphics.
I heard good things about Ubuntu, but I can't say i've ever used it.
Whatever distro you use, get KDE if you're looking for nice interfaces. Get GNOME if you want to use it for stability and work purpose. Get both if you have the space.
