Did you accedentally reboot the computer while your filesystem was mounted? That's normal, but you might have tripped a little bug with chkdsk. Run scandisk and correct any filesystem problems. Heck, do the lower-level scan if you can, even though it can take longer...
Do you leave it to finish the disk checking? Because if you interrupt it, it'll try again next time you boot the computer.
How the disk checking behaves depends also on the file system you're using on your computer..

your hard disk may have errors....
if u not safely switched off, hard disk may occur. it is by the head in u r HDD. try to scan all u r hdd one time.

I think it was a problem with one of my external hard drives. I sent the drive back for replacement and my computer hasn't tried to run check disk with my other external hard drive.
