Please help me with this Geography debate

rohan2kool
Me alongwith 4 people are going to a national level competition called 'GeoFest' and have taken part in various activities. Now the thing is, one of the activity is a debate (called GeoTalk), in which there is this topic

'Human Geography rather than physical and regional Geography needs greater attention'

now the thing is, that we are not getting this topic clearly... what it literally means is clear to us, but what we are expected to do and what we are expected to write or maybe some additional points.. please hep us if u can.. thanks a lot Very Happy

OK. Your starting point is to adopt either the pro or anti for this proposition.
The anti is, I think, more difficult to debate and might, therefore, be a good choice.

The basic framework of the debate is clear.

Under 'human' geography one would group the following :
Agriculture, Anthropology, Cultural & Social Geography, Development Geography, Economic Geography, Geography of Gender, Historical Geography, Medical Geography, Migration, Political/Electoral Geography
Urban Geography

Physical geography is concerned to explain the spatial characteristics of the various natural phenomena associated with the Earth's hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and lithosphere.

To argue the 'pro' case one would contrast the relevant completeness of
geographic mapping etc with the dynamic and unstable nature of migration, politics and economics (for example) and make the case that thelatter are more pressing and, therefore, in need of pressing attention. That is a relatively simple case to argue.

A more interesting choice would be the anti. An obvious starting point would be global warming and the fact that lack of knowledge of physical geography is one of the reasons why our models are so imprecise, meaning that there is little consensus about climate and the effect AGW (Anthropomorphic Global Warming - as opposed to natural GW) is having and will have on the planet.

That should give you a starting point at least
