Installing new DVD-RW drive

charseips
I have installed a new DVD-RW drive in my Dell Dimension 3000 desktop pc running XP fully up to date. I have installed it in the second slot as the slave (with the section of cable marked as slave), but it has taken over from the CD/RW drive in the primary which is now not displaying in My Computer and will not autorun or anything (although the power is still going to it and the cabling is connected).

I have looked in the BIOS and it is set to auto detect the master and slave.

Any help would be appreciated, If I can work out what the drives are I'll post their details.

You will have to change the jumper setting at the back up of your dvd rom and set it as slave. Se the picture below for reference, its a small black cap covering the pins

Now pls refer to your dvd rom documentation to check the appropiate setting of jumper to make it slave, If you can't find that out, just remove that cap(jumper) and it will most likely work as slave.

Thanks, I think you've probably nailed the missing link in my installation.
