First Motorbike

Well, beacuse of the way gas has gone, as well as insurance, I've been thinking about getting a Street Bike.

Now, I was thinking in the 250CC range would probly be all I'm looking for at first.

I know nothing about them, and I was wondering if anyone had any good brand/models/years that I should look in.

never riden street but i would get like a 04-06 600 RR honda. They are good bikes and it was my uncles first bike... but then again i come from a family into riding quads and dirtbikes and all so that just may be me. A 250 would work but you will most likly want to go faster and all. So this way you get this and you don't have to upgrade anything or stuff like that. The most you would need to do is maybe change the pipe but thats all.

My neighbot went to daytona to learn how to work on bikes and all so i knwo that is what he recomends. Its a great bike for begineers and you can have it long. Its like when you where a kid you would get the shoes that are a little too big for your feet so you could grow into them.. well the same applies here.

Beginners often agonize over what beginner motorcycle they should buy as their first bike. Some new riders want to buy a new beginner motorcycle but want a bigger bike that they won't outgrow. Others opt for a used bike for the first year or so to minimize the repair cost when they inevitably drop the bike while learning.

I say buy something like a Kawasaki Ninja 250. Its easy to ride, light, and fun. If you decide you want something more powerful, you can sell it for the same price you bough ti it and then upgrade with confidence.

Many experts recommend bikes such as the Suzuki GS500, the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and 500, the Honda 250 and 450 Rebels, the Honda Shadow VLX600 [1] and [2], the Honda Nighthawk 250 or 750, the Suzuki Bandit 600, and the Yamaha Seca 600. These would all be used bikes you may be able to buy under $2000, maybe as low as $600 in some cases.

If you want a street bike with good looks ... go for the Suzuki GS500. If you want more power over good looks, try the Suzuki Bandit 600. Both bikes handle well and should give you many great rides.

due to local restrictions on powerful bikes for new riders, i can't get anything decent to start off so i plan on getting something like a used honda CT90/110 - very slow so i don't kill myself while learning to ride but also very cheap so i can save for a decent sports or something when i get my full license.

Hey all, my first post here.

I have ridden bikes for 20 years, from commuting to road racing. I saw this question a lot when I was selling bikes.

Some questions first:
How much do you weigh & height & age?

Where will you be riding mostly?
urban/city, highways, back roads

Any cc restrictions where you live?

Will you want to take a friend along?

Any physical problems?

What do you want to spend?

That should give me something to go on.

My first bike was a 1999 Kawasaki EX250 Ninja. Pretty crappy for the most part in terms of power, as I found it to have not enough power after the first 3 months tha tI had it. I modded it with stage 3 jets, a Muzzy 2-into-1, and an air filter, which gave it a swift kick in the ass, but still not enough.

I sold it last year, and bought a car. But, I am glad that I started out on that bike, as it taught me some valuable lessons. I originally wanted to get a 2003 ZX-6RR Ninja for a starter bike, but lots of people turned me away form that, and pointed me in the direction of the 250.

Now, when I get a bigger bike, I know to respect its power, and not go mental on it just because the power's there.

Buy a 4stroke 125cc bike, such as CBR125. They are easy to handle, realiable, cheap and easy to maintain, low compsumption of fuel.

My first Motorbike was a Yamaha TZR80cc. It ended up with a 125cc cylinder, for kart circuit racing with friends, hehe. Just for fun

pablo diablo's got the right idea...you dont need a crotch rocket like the cbr 600 rr..the size is decieving...even tho is't a 600 its way to powerfull if you havnt riden much. ive been riding my whole life and im just now getting my liscense and i wont let myself ride the 600's...my fahter has a harley dyna glide 1450..and just the way that bike is more than double displacement of the honda cbr it still feels like half the ponys...dont go with any of the 600 crotch rocket race ready bikes....

im starting with a suzuki 650 dual sport my father picked up..its a single 650 but it's all you'll ever need...when do you wanna go over highway speeds...i always say if you wanna go fast do it on the track
