Best MMORPG: Maple Story. Period.
cybernie

Maple Story is what I play, but it can get boreing after awhile. It's very grind based in terms of playing.

i like both World of Warcraft and Silkroad. I cant comment on the rest because these are the only two i have played.

world of Warcraft is a good game. Allowing alot of different character races, classes and appearances on top of that. It also has decent storyline and quests. Also the leveling is good. Because of the level cap, it gives the player something to aim towards and acheive.

On the other hand, Silkroad has no level cap (i think), allowing unlimited growth potential. This can be good and bad. If you are level 40 say, you have no idea how many are better and worse than you. In WoW though. if your level 60 then you are at the top so matches (PVP exp) are more balanced.

Also the quests in Silkroad can become a bit of a nuisence sometimes. Especially when you get told to "Collect 200 White Tiger Skins". You set out on the quest only to realise that only 1 in 5 white tigers have skins (weird, you would think they all have skins). This means killing like 1000 Tigers to complete the quest. Very repetative in some areas..

Overall, even though i havnt got WoW and i currently play Silkroad, I prefer WoW over silkroad for the reasons mentioned above. Very Happy

I've been wanting to play WoW for awhile, but I've been spending my money on more important stuff, like food, to survive. But I've said it before, I really enjoy Dofus, but, the free version is too limited, and if you pretty much don't put all your power behind one skill, then you suck. Then I tryed the version called Dofus Arena, and even though it's more like an online tactical rpg, and not a tactical mmorpg, it's still fun as hell to play.
poleq16
World of warcraft r0x, nice graphics and sounds, its just very nice game. I love it
Tasa
To simple say one MMORPG is better then all the rest is a little short sighted. Most have there niche they fill and appeal to many differant players. It really is about what you are looking for. Or in the OP case what you want to make.

Personal I prefer Guildwars but I played and enjoyed World of warcraft City of heros and many more.

Ragnarok Online & Final Fantasy XI, RF Online or Maplestory.
Download/Buy them, and go to bed with your socks. (If you do know what I mean.)

RAN Online is the best MMORPG for me.
kaboose342
Well i do like WoW but when i started playing d&d online, i thought it wus much better. d&d has better graphics from what i have seen. The graphics are outstanding actualy. Some of the missions in D&D are so fun, that you just gota do them again and then finaly you get hooked into the game. If your guys are ever intrested in that game, your should check out their free 7 day trial. I dont got anything agaisnt WoW but d&d is just for me, more fun. The only thing you can't do (well at least i think) is fight other members online. So theres my opinion.

In my opinion, starkingdoms is the best around. It's free to play, can be played on most any internet connection.

Starkingdoms has a great community of over 2000 people playing. There are usually 300-400 people on at any given time, more during key times (game resets, etc.).

The game is 100% text based, and is based around building a kingdom (or planet), in a sector. The other 19 people assigned to your sector (based on when they sign up, and if they are bringing a "group" with them), are to hopefully become your allies for the round, which lasts two months. Your sector joins an alliance of 15 other sectors, and you become a large group of allied kingdoms.

Your sector has a set of forums, for your sectors private use, and your alliance has a set of forums, in which your entire alliance can read and respond to.

At heart it is a military/strategy/war game. You try to build your planet in a military manner, based on attacking others outside of your sector and alliance, and gaining their land. The more land you gain, the more buildings you can build, the more military you can train, the more kingdoms you can attack. There is also a nice set of public forums, with a general section which has developed into a sort of private community.

Alliances can wage war upon each other, declare peace with each other, create a non-agression pact, and even be allies. Wars are usually based on your alliance trying to kill the strongest, most active, important members of the other alliance while surviving yourself.

Other features of the game are scientists, which allow you to research new technologies and military units; buildings which house military and create cash and other various things; missiles which are a way of destroying enemy land and population; and probes which allow you to scan an enemies kingdom and view his military and research bonuses, rob him, arson his residences, and other things.

The micro aspects of the game that keep you going are population, which is based on how many residences you have; power, based on popwer plants, research bonuses, and units that use power; money which is generated by star mine buildings as well as population, which you use to finance your kingdom.

In the begining you also choose which type of planet you want, and each planet has a different set of advantages and disadvantages, which good players use to make stronger kingdoms.

I reccommend this to anyone who would like to try a refreshing, addicting, enoyable game with a great community.

speaking of mmo's i will say that for a while, world of warcraft was a great MMO. it pulled me away from FFXI which was also a great game. but after a year of play WoW i really want to sell my account, the game has gotten that boring for me =| what should i do. any suggestions for other mmo's out there, and no i will not play maple story, roseonline, RO, AO, or L2.
Squirreler
Deicide seems to be cool, get it a few days ago, FREE, alot like WoW but with out the great charracter hoice alsoo there is a big limit to the monsters you battle and their pretty lame monsters
EG:zombie dog, goblin cyclops etc.

BUT...
The graphics are really great for free game!
The spell effects(graphics) are REALLY cool
Great choice of customisable weapons and clothing

NOTE:
Game seems very crappy untill you get to abou lvl 4 or 5
Dont give up hope &(kill the cyclops there like cheats for mana)
AKA: a bit glitchy Smile
WOTW
starkingdoms for sure.

I've played quite a few actually and since I can only afford one paying game... I have to say based on my experienced would be WOW cos it just sets a totally different standards when it comes to MMORPG.

For sure newly released games would have perhaps improved it further but as I mentioned... not enuf funds to try the rest cos I am stilll hooked on WOW.

Wink

Statistically it's World of Warcraft. I think it has some good ideas in it and gameplay can be interesting but the colorfull world sometimes might draw people away.
I play Lineage2, it is a good game, i think some game magazine called it MMO for people with a lot of patience and game experience. Cuz leving up takes a lot of time and to actually be good you need lots of months of playing.
And my latest mmo addition is Guild Wars, which is good for PVP play style. Nice storyline and lots of mobs to slash and player-vs-player feautures.
m_furquan36
The Best mmorpg game i have ever played yet is without a doubt Wow(world of warcraft). The graphics are like good and there is always something to do...you never like get bored playing it,either you can quest or you can level up different skills. This really is one of those games that really begin when you reach the max level (lvl 60) atm and with the new expansion set coming out soon its just going to make the game even more fun and gonna add about another million things to do all in a new way is is going to be great.

Hello,

I see that this topic has been dominated by WOW fans. Have you ever tried to play Lineage 2 ?
Lineage II is reported to have over 14 million subscribers worldwide, and bases on Unreal engine.
If anyone didnt hear about it, here is wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineage_II

Cheers

PS. There are like millions free servers to play Lineage 2 out there Smile

No, you can't upgrade your computer hardware over the internet, without actually buying and installing it physically. Send me a link to the "Graphics Card download" and I will explain it to you further Wink

well i think the best mmorpg will go to the Linage 2 !!
a great gaming sytem with multiple custom , race, and monster.. the realistic of the game are almost... REAL!!

World of warcraft are good but the blocking grafic make me feel awfull!
but the "the sit" are totally cool!! nice skill and dungeon and nice updated.. waste of time!!

Maple story will be the worst 2d mmorpg.
the grafic is good the story is nice... just that the game style make me vomit!
a silly guy.. me.. who use a stupid weapon and hit.. and hit .. hit.. dont know what i am doing! with limited back pack the ETC part.. hard to get item and quest complete!! but the game is beter than Ragnarok online which meso drop from monster! and its total free ex the cash store part!!

Raganarok Online will do the job for beginner (mmorpg beginner)!!

but it all depend on people to and who judge the game!!
Gammer rules!!

Well, may say WOW and guild wars,

i'm creating my own MMORPG, so u know which MMO i like Very Happy
votd
I think Lineage 2 and Guild Wars no more.

I can tell you that Tibia sucks a big deal, yeah - it's crap.
Also Maple Story isn't that good, but it isn't that miserable asthough really. It's good, actually - not bad really.

Also - Deicide Online sucks. It looks more like Final Fantasy IX on PSX Emulator beta!
shuoaini
I've played ALOT of mmorpgs over the years, and I have to say, Final Fantasy XI has been my most enjoyable experience. From the beautiful scenery to the intense battle system, FFXI has it all. Whenever you joined a party, you would be with them for at least a couple of hours. You would go through their hardships and together, overcome any obstacle. It was a game which gave you a sense of bonding and meaning. Maybe, i'm going to deep into the MMORPG world, but definitely, I feel that if you enjoy MMORPGs, try Final Fantasy XI for a change.

For me the best online gaming is and stays so far I know "Vendetta Online" Its a game of 3D vesion that is still in construction and has many things to offer. You only need to pay $10 every month and in return you get a amazing 3D space travel game.

Well I would put my money for that ^^
7Pound7
Can someone explain to me what fun it is to have to pay a fixed amount each month to spend time behind a game that only makes sure your time passes away useless?

I like playing games also, but MMORG is sooooo time consuming that for many people it is a way too not think about who they are in real life and connect with real people.

Shorter games serve the purpose of relaxing, enjoy and have a good time. WHile not paying a rent each month and let your social life explode into nothing but bits and bytes.

Any comment?

I would have to say world of warcraft. Blizz has put some thought into this game. There comming out with a expack in nov that will change alot in the game. I know ppl complain about blizz but wow has had some thought and is the biggest online game todate.

maplestory is good. no time to play latly thogh

Hi,

I played Ragnarok some years ago and what I was very upset with (so obviously I didnt play it for a long time) were the monsters.
Do you still fight some pink things like pink jelly or small insects at least on low-levels?

Best regards

the best MMORPG for me is deffinetly Lineage2
but playing on official servers takes much time so i prefer l2j pvp servers Twisted Evil
HereticMonkey
As a side note, there's Flyff, but it's a debatable one. It has a basic map, but there are some interesting surprises that show up every so often, in the form of huge monsters that take a lot of people to nail. You can collect mana from them, and then sell it or use it to create better items.

The story's pretty lacking, and after a while it gets monotonous, but the social aspect is more interesting than other games. It's not bad if you are just looking for something to pass the time, but it's otherwise it's a waste...

So, if you litterally tried, "all", then you know that there are many MMORPGs and you could not possibly download and keep "all" on the same computer at the time, unless you have a "big" computer. The best one...there isn't. Self declared titles are worthy of condemn'tion.
Blu_Spykz
Don't play MMORPG's really. No time to be honest - don't wanna pay monthly when I have little or no time to spend on it.

Is it true that Guild Wars is free!? IE No monthly payments?

Looking forward to Stargate Worlds, but, if it gets released, it'll probably be a pay monthly game and so again, I wont get it.

I would have to say world of warcraft, that game is so fun and so many maps and quests and items. The cost is kinda expensive a month, but I think its worth it.
Sukozu
SWG before they destroyed it with the latest crappy update was something extra!

The best mmorpg I played until today is World of Warcraft. But it has monthly fees, that's a bad thing Sad ...
But I don't play World of Warcraft anymore, I play Rubies of Eventide. It has beautifull graphics, good animations, many professions and skills and 5 races to choose from and an nice community Very Happy. Also it's free!
I play it everyday, I'm an Dwarf Warrior Very Happy with big hammer skill and mining skill.
http://eventide.net/home.html
I also once played Dofus the free version. Nice game also!

My favorite one would be Tatsumaki: Land at War. Even though its not out yet. xD It just sounds so dang fun! My site is devoted to that game. And I am really really really obsessed with Japan. (not to the point of wanting to be Japanese, I am proud of my own heritage a lot) You can thank Nintendo and the internet for that. >.>

Another of my favorites is GuildWars. I like how the quests are fun, and not just those "kill a certain number of these" or "get a certain number of these". Another thing I like, is how you can be the only person on a field, so you don't have to worry about people KSing you. I have all three of the GW games.

I used to love Silkroad (now I just like it), but when you get higher up, it just gets boring. It can take days or even weeks to level up. Also, the bad English can get annoying, but it has been improved a few months ago. I've recently played the Korean Silkroad to see the addition of Europe to the game. I like the look of their Eastern Europe. (ooh, Byzantium) And later on, they will add Arabia (or Islam as Joymax calls it >.>) to the game.

Another one I like is Rakion. It is kinda like a fighter game, but has quests and stuff in it. The bad thing about it is how it only works on certain graphics cards. On my notebook, it gets all screwed up. (I have no idea how to upgrade a laptop, so I can't do anything about it)

Here are the ones I think are least deserving of being the best:
Hero Online- Boring grindfest.
9 Dragons- Interesting at first, but gets boring later on
Legend of Ares- medieval grindfest that looks horrible
Kal Online - Super grinding, wierd
Knight Online - Awfully expensive items, and there is like... no one in some towns

People's motivations differ. MMORPGs have a certain appeal bacause often you're challenging other people, they do unexpected things unlike computer AIs. There is a huge social network in some of these games and many of them are complicated to the point that even after playing for 2 years you're still learning something new (I'm using EvE as my benchmark).

It can be viewed that you're sat behind your keyboard and have no other life...but that just isn't true of every MMORPG player. I sculpt, draw, walk my dogs, socialise (Off-line), play RPGs, I fence and sword fight too, as well as do costume and prop making and even throw the occasional dinner party.

MMORPGs are time consuming, but they can be very rewarding too.
apexcaliber
I've played Everquest 2, Guild Wars and World of Warcraft. So far World of Warcraft has blown them all away. I have been tempted to try some of the free games and or open betas I see on various sites though.
Derioh
World of Warcraft first, then Guild Wars
hardcoregamer808
The best one? World Of Warcraft. The best one that you only have to pay for the game (no monthly fee)? Guild Wars. Best free game period? Silkroad Online.

Yup buy the game and it yours. The newest chapter just came out awhile ago and you can get it for $50(US) or get an older chapter for maybe $35-$40(US)

There are a lot of MMORPGs out there with no monthly cost. And the ones that do are worth it. I know a lot of people that use to spend $250-$300 a year on games they started playing WoW and it is only $120 a year.

I think the best mmorpg-game is World of Warcraft. On Tuesday, the 16. of January, the World of Warcraft addon Burning Crusade will released in europe. Above 8 million players over the world are playing this game. This game changed my life. No other mmorpg reached this. If you are young, or if you are old, this game made no difference. Absolutly fantastic... Twisted Evil
nurgeloid
What do you guys think about the up coming Warhammer Online Age of reckoning?
schmidi
i have played this game in august 2006 (Games Convention). How i should say: This game has a better pvp part than WOW. You can hold and loose terretories. You can back urge the enemy and so you are playing a important part. This is the reason why Warhammer Online is better in PVP than WOW.
orizak
I generally dislike massive online games, since every one I've played (Maple Story, Flyff, Guild Wars at a friend's) involves tons of just killing monsters over and over to make a little number go up, then when that number gets to 100 it changes to 0 and another number goes up by one.

I just don't have the time or patience to get very far in these (I had a level 26 character in maple story after playing for 6 months and a level 18 in flyff).

I don't have a World of Warcraft account, I have a life! Mad
(BTW that's a South Park reference, I don't mean to offend anybody Razz)
DILLIGAF
I have been playing Knight-Online for over 2 years. IMO it has the best PVP. It is one of the best MMORPG's I have played. The down side is that their customer support is poor and they have a problem controling the hackers and cheaters. But if you get in with one of the good Clans in the game you can have alot of fun.
inferno2211
Definitely, World Of Warcraft.
Wish4Me
I agree with WoW its the best because it has a very nice community. And Blizzard makes the best games because they put a lot of time into there games. They try to make them as perfect as possible and keep on patching. When they actually patch it fixes the problems unlike other MMORPG's. Some MMORPG's have actually gotten worse the more patches applied, but this is not the case with the world of warcraft and because of that it is the best.
Shiine
i dont think of whats the best mmorpg... I KNOW... and thats Maple Story, im lvl 45 cleric and i still love the game "much".

theres the site if u want it.

I would recomend you to try Hero Online or Kal Online, if you like martial arts you ca try 9 dragons or Fly for Fun for more fantasy play

Lost Chaos is a good MMORPG. The fighting style is nice since you don't have to take turns when fighting. Dofus looks like a good game but I haven't started playing it yet.
whiskers27
id have to say last chaos since i cant afford WOW but i love last chaos it is almost like wow but no lol
rayofash
Tibia back in 98-99, the original AOL Neverwinter Nights, Asherons Call, EverQuest 4 years ago, Meridian 59 both when it was ran and the player servers today, and some UO free shards, are the best. They had balance, they had style, they had good communities, and most of all they were fun.

I really miss NWN Crying or Very sad .
ShuuJi
Maple Story, Ragnarok, Lineage III, Silk-Road are the best.
