Atheist television content

Atheist television content

Why is it that most of American television content is of an atheist nature? I do not have a problem with this fact specifically. What I do have a problem with is that Christians or other people with a religion are sketched as inferior people and sometimes being made fun of.

Its not, its of a secular Christan nature
Soulfire
There is no such thing as secular Christianity. You follow Jesus or you don't. You are Christian or you aren't. That is one area where it IS black and white.
Lennon
But yet in the real world there is such a grey area. Not just absolute black and white because we're all different. We all make mistakes, have our own ideas or interpretations of Christ's teachings. I wish we had a world that was black and white, perfect in everyway.
Soulfire
I said you either followed Christ or you don't, not necessarily how you follow Christ, just that you do or not. That part is what's black and white.
Lennon
How about this....

I don't follow him but I still call myself christian

I follow his teachings but I'm not yet baptised so I'm not a christian yet.

I follow him but I don't know anything about him.
Soulfire
Why would you call yourself Christian if you do not follow Christ?
The Conspirator
Soul: Secular Christians are Christens who believe them selves to be Christens, people who believe in God, Jesus heaven, hell and so on but but secular world view on non-spiritual matters (law, politics, business, money and so on).

Tvs must have an objective vision.

"Because I was brought up that way. My parents were christian, so I believe in Jesus, though I don't know anything about him."

Another example; lapse catholics, Ireland has Roman Catholics 95% of the population, only 5% attend weekly sunday mass. So they call themselves Catholic and don't do anything about it. So the statistics of 1-2 billion Catholics worldwide is indeed skeptical if you have to be a firm believer to be truly Roman Catholic.

I guess it comes down to your defintion of what it means to "follow Christ". If you mean something along the lines of you've said the sinner's prayer, then I guess it could be black and white, although I argue the hell out of that definiton.

Let me pose a question from my real life.
I have one friend who has professed jesus as thier savior. They go to church every sunday, sings the songs, listens to the sermons and even takes notes. They read the purpose driven life and went through the work book with the sunday school class at thier church, and they live a normal life.
I have another friend who absolutely despises religion, has never said the sinners prayer, or profession of faith, or catechism or whatever kind of thing one would use for a marker. I once saw her curse out a street preacher who told us we were going to hell as we sat on the patio of a kick ass beach bar smoking cigars. She choose to take a big cut in pay to go work for the National Runaway Hotline helping provide for kids who have runaway from home and are now living on the streets, and then turns around and gives back a portion of her already small paycheck. She is always participating in food and clothing drives, and helps the less forunate family who lives in her area.
who would you say is following jesus?

Who do you think controls the media?

Could you explain as to which type of Christian are portrayed as "inferior people". Not to offend anyone, but I can understand why some shows, documentaries, would show Evangelical Christians as "inferior people"(Your words not mine) as there is not real logical absolute thinking it more of a blind faith approach to life, where as your run of the mill Christian would not as they do not believe fully in their faith, but explore more possibilities as to the true nature of the Universe

Ok so I may have offended some people here in saying that, so as I consider myself to be a man of the good old integers, lets balance the equation here. I'm Irish, and in a lot of American TV shows the Irish are seen as the Drunken Leprechauns, and its no way near true, sure we do have a reputation for drinking, but nowhere near as the English would for Drunken violence, but do you hear us complaining about it, no, why, because we can laugh at ourselves, and say, yes we are Drunken Leprechauns, though allot, including myself do even not drink alcohol,

So the thing is, you'll have to sit back and laugh at it, because it is funny whether you like it or not, it doesn't mean people think less of you, take for example the IRA, I don't know how many of you know about them, but the IRB/A were a "terrorist" group who wanted a Republican Ireland, one that was not ruled by the British, just the Americans wanted it for their own, now the IRA were, by most part, Catholic, does this mean that all Catholic Irishmen are terrorists, as they were, and are still to this day in comedy sketches and so on? I think not

Many would disagree. One might not accept Christ as the savior but still follow other Christian tenets or be influenced by Christian ideals.
