i don't know the exact tos for google ads. If i have a product site on calculaors. What kind of ads would be best suited for the site. Is it against google tos if i have their ads plus more from others?

Well you can have other ads with google adsense on your site. The type of ads you should have on your site depends on your traffic and visitors. If you have a lot of pageviews 1k per day then switch to cpm ads otherwise adsense really works. You should always post ads on the top or anywhere where it is visible and suit visitors eyes.
