I know this would take time, I know this would likely affect peoples scripts but we cant ignore it forever.
There is alot of added functionality with PHP5 that can only be compensated so far with PEAR functions, so basically my suggestion is upgrade both Frihost servers to PHP5.

This would also give the chance to re-compile PHP which may stop these brief but constant downtimes?
