after winning the race at monza yesterday, schumacher announced that he will retire after this season.... now thats BIG! he has been here for as long as i can remember... and though i've hated him (am a mclaren supporter), he is probably the best driver F1 ever had... he deserves to go off in style and now i really hope he wins the championship...
also it was announced that kimi will move over to ferrari and join up with massa for next season
no more iceman for mclaren... he was my fav driver.. for the next year mclaren has alonso as first driver but the second hasnt been decided yet...
Yeah. That is big. Imagine the F1 without Schumi....since the early 90s he's been dominating the Formula 1. I'll really miss him.
Ferrari will be the best! Massa and Raikkonen will rock!
As for Alomso, I dislike him. He may not fit in too well with McLaren Mercedes. I think that Rubens Bariecelo will take the second driver's spot.
finnaly he is leaving cauze i cant stand him anymore.i am watching him since i started to watch f1 and now i cant watch him anymore.i am so frustrated when michael is driving
i hope he will not win the championship.it is nothing personal against him but it just that i had enough of michael. but after all the thins i said i must say that he is the best driver f1 ever had
i hope next season mclaren will win the championship
I don't think anybody really likes him, but every person should say he is one of, if not only one on the top, the best in the history.
M Shumacher, is the best Fomula One driver ever.
I think no one willever be able to win as much Champioship as him.
7 OR 8 Championship is almost impossible to equal.
He won over 90 grandprix in his carrer whereas the second most titled 'AlainProst' only won 50 races.
I agree with people who thinks it's anoying to see the same personn win again and again and again.
It's time to see new faces on the top
Goodbye, the most successful yet the most hated driver of the Formula 1 (Formel Eins if you wish MSc).
Well this guy was good, is still good, but not the best ever - the previous legends drove under the risks of death, where rather than the car, the electronics, the computers; perfect driving was a skill.
And he was a hated character not only among f1 spectators, but also almost all drivers. Well, noone can claim he had a good reputation, hitting both Damon Hill in 1994 where he ran off without any punishment, and Jacques Villeneuve in 1997 for the title (where this time he was stripped of his 2nd position).
Well I didn't like him either as you can guess. Hope that we see both successful and yet great in personality stars.
I must agree. Although I disliked Schumacher, there is always a feeling of sympathy when a legend retires. My favorite driver is Kimi Raikonnen and I believe with the Ferarri team, he might be unstoppable. Alonso may have a shot, but I think Kimi is a better driver.

Irrelevant! Just count the number of the races and the positions at the ends and you will see. I suppose there is drivers in the world who could drive better than Schumnacher in some old cars, but who would notice that kind of race? Formula 1 is the prime drivers championship and the best driver in it is the best driver in the world (I don't count rally champions...).

You don't watch soccer or any other dirty sport, don't you?
schumi will be gone, but his legacy will remain.
kimi n massa in reds with alonso n maybe rubens in the black cars. It's gonna be a great season next time.
i personally don't like the iceman movin to the red machine but then he still is my fav driver...
this thread is dedicated to schumi and lets not take anything away from the man who dominated F-1 racing for amlost a decade....
Yea.. well.. it's pretty sad that he retire
was A great Sportstar.... and a great person.
The advance in car quality, electronics, mechanics and other tecnologies that go into winning F1 today does not reduce the achievements of Schumacher... That is common to all sports.
It is true it got a bit repetitive to see him on that podium so often but that's just cos no one could beat him and Ferrari. I myself am a McLarren fan but that does not mean I respect him less for his achievements. It means I stick to being a Mclarren fan through their lows without changing over to Ferrari like some people do, backing the winning horse while respecting Schumacher for being a great driver.
And now that he is gone, we can look forward to exciting times ahead when the new generation of drivers will try to prove who is the new King on the track.
Drive safe.
a big loose for F1, F1 will loose popularity again ( Montoya- Villeneuve- Schumacher. ), so it is important that there will be next season, Super battles again.
About Schumacher, He is absolute one of the best drivers ever. However he was sometimes unfair, It gives Schumi bad points but you have to respect his achievments, it is simply unique.
PS: i'm not a Schumi fan but he deserves RESPECT.
The game will go on. Nothing will happen if someone retires.

Yes, it will. Look what happened with cycling after Armstrong retired. I hope that the competition becomes more equal to everubody.
Schumacher is the greatest F1 driver of all times, he deserves the cup of F1 champion. Like in 1st post mantiened, he dominated for 15 years, 3-4 times he lost the cup for 5 points or something like that.
In other way, Alonso it too much "d*cklike". He hasn't got respect for older and BETTER drivers then he, he's only a little not-grown punk.
SCHUMI THE BEST 4 EVER in our hearts!
About time if you ask me.
About time if you ask me.

yes, he has most of the records, i agree. but it's easier with his ferrrari than with fangio's cars (he drove with different teams, always winning). we can't make a comparation. fangio won almost every race he ran. he won some races against all odds. and what about senna? he died, but it was hard to stop him. i think that those two are the greast pilots ever. and, what is more, they were great sportists. schumacher is not. he won races, but there is more than winning in sports: there has to be healthy competition... atittudes he had such as his "weird" turn with villeneuve, i think in 1997, are really disgusting, and anyone who does so should not be regarded as a hero.
Dunno if you can call Schumacher the best ever. He is certainly in the top 3 best, However in this period the driving skills are less important. Plus, he is unfair to the sport and the other drivers. Plus against wich pilots did he raced? Only can mention Hakkinen as very very big driver. Plus under pression he makes mistakes.
However look at his amazing stats and you will notice he is a monument in F1 History.
Grtzz,
He is the best F1 driver ever.

At least it will now open the championship to other drivers
But you got to give credit for how well he has done in the last couple of years. Its going to be hard for anyone else to beat his record
I think schumi is the best driver ever of his era (1994 - 2004). But is he the best sportsman? hell no. Give schumi a string, he'll ask, "who should I use this on?" There is a difference. I don't see the point in comparing guys like fangio to schumi and senna because its like comparing Ali to Tyson and all that! I am glad he is retiring for selfish reasons. Finally Kimi will have a chance to win a championship. McLaren have let him down twice. It won't be smooth sailing at Ferrari, but he stands a better chance.
I do hope Alonso wins the championship because I honestly think he is a better driver than schumi. And him winning this year will prevent the silly tifosi from saying "The only reason alsonso won in 2005 was because Schumi was having a bad year!" The remaining races should be classic. I hope its a real fight for 1st and 3rd place in the championship.
If you like schumi or not you got to agree he was one of the biggest names in not only F1 but also in the last decade!!! He was almost always at the top nad i think he will in at the top!! F1 will loose a lot with his retire and for a long time there will not be a driver who could compare to Schumi.
The last race in Japan, was such a great succes to Shumacher!!
He started at the 6 place and ended the race in the first position, after he came in front of Alonso and now he is the Number one at the world Title.
I hope that Shumacher will retire with the championshep in his hands.
@skynet
The last race was in Shangai, China. The race this weekend is @ Suzuka, Japan
And yes he did drive an amazing race.

NO. He's not. Ayrton Senna is.
He isn't the greatest, but he is one of the greatest, You can't compare them anyway.
Okay, who will win Japan??
I think Schumi will win in Japan, Why?? I dunno, it is a feeling that he is going to win. It would be nice if they can leave the gap as it is now, so we can get a last race title decider. Who finishes first in the race is the champion.
Grttz,
I hope alonso wins this weekend!!! He really deserves it. Especially since his team is now sabotaging him! I don't think Schumacher deserves an 8th title. But then again, if he can take it, then he takes it.
Nice to hear Michael won again this weekend, unfortunately I missed the race as I am on vacation but at least I will get to watch the last 2 races of the year where hopefully Schumacher will claim his final world championship.
It would be great to see him retire as the world champion although I support Alonso too, he will get his chance again next year.
It did seem at the beginning of the year that Alonso would win the title again easily but now it is so close it will be a great end to the season whoever wins, I just hope it comes down to the last race to decide the winner

Why should Alonso win? Just bcos his own team is sabotaging him.
To me Alonso, is the most Unsporting guy on the Paddock today. Feels very arrogant to me (via all the staements he has made), and if his own team mates dont want him to win then its clear that he is not the best guy around when it comes to being friend with all
I want Schumacer to win and take the 8th title. He really deserves it, not the Arrogant Alonso.

indeed! he´s been like a icon for formula one for so long time. On the other hand it´s quite exciting when he leaves, to see who will take his place and so on.
After all it can be nice with a change after a long time of shumi
good riddance I say. It's about time he left. I remeber being a Schumi supporter when he drove for Bennetton all those years ago. that all changed after the success went to his cranium and he started with his antics ofwinning no matter what. (i draw attention the the Hill - Schumi incident that cost Hill the title)
Thanks to Shumi and ferrari F1 racing got boring. When he moved to Ferrari he did great things getting the team on a winning streak. He should have left Ferrari to go to another team to share his talent as he did when he left Bennetton. Because of these two components in the whole F1 mix there has been endless rows and apparent favouritism by the authorities for Ferrari and Shumi, nearly ending in a split in F1.
I am an avid F1 fan. I sat in my first F1 car at the age of 4, belonging to the great Nelson Piquet, and have followed it for the next 25 years. I have seen greats in that time Senna, Lauda, Piquet, Prost, Mansell, in that order. Schumi in my books will not rank in there, simply because of his attitude and his antics, even though he may have had infinately more talent than some of the afore mentioned champions.
Great talent wasted on bad attitude.
but all said and done , it remains that he is one of the greatest legends in that sport.
