Hey guys, I put this in philosophy because I guess I'm looking for your logical opinion and no other category looked good.
I am kind of part of the furry fandom and would like to know people's opinions on furries (if you like them, don't mind them, or you hate them and why). Also what I'm curious to know is what people think a furry is.
I've seen this type of topic posted on quite a few forums now but my hopes are always crushed in getting a good answer as most of the threads turn into a full out flame-war between the furries and non-furries. However, I recognize FriHost's respectful environments and hope that maybe I'll get better answers to why so many people don't like us that much.
I'll wait for a few opinions to appear and then I'll point out some misconceptions in any replies along with a full fledged definition of what a furry is. Posts based around religion are also okay as long as you are able to accept what I or any other furries on this forum have to say, just like we'll accept what you have to say.
I have never heard of a "furry" unless it has something to do with worshiping people who need to shave and get a hair cut.
Furries are no different than any other fetish. A half human half animal hybrid is not any more evil than the myriad other practices that one deems off the wayside.
Of course, pornographic furries are silly, if you ask me, but they're harmless, and if someone decides to get off on that, that's their deal.
What do you mean by harmless? Please elaborate.
Just another weird fetish in a would where people have too much time on there hands and theres too much porn.
I dislike furries ... Tails and Long Cute Bunny Ears are fine with me but full body covered with fur ... Yuck! I wouldn't lick one of those .... What about lice and dandruff ... Eww ....
But is that really a reason to dislike us?
Well for instance a Rape fetish is not harmless, as some of the porn on the subject is genuine, and it has been known to lead to actual rape.
Furry porn is unlikely to hurt anyone. So there's nothing wrong with it, in my eyes.
Thats a very interesting point. I've seen the word "harmless" used a lot to describe the fandom but never really understood what people meant by it.
The reason you gave is completely valid. However, I'm curious as to why its non-real life existance is what makes it harmless. Hypothetically, if it were genuine, wouldn't it still be harmless?
Well now, I never actually mentioned the fact that it's entirely fictional...
However, if it were real, it would simply be another sub-set of porn. Slightly less harmless for it, but not necessarily harmful. It would really depend what the furries were doing.
*Ahem* Let's call a "spayed" a "spayed."
If the "furries" you describe are in any way intended to provoke a sexual response, the proper term would be "bestiality." Further, if these "furries" happen to have a resemblance to human children - then, it's called "paedophilia" (or a combination of the two). Either way, that would be hentai, and only for furverts.
Not all furries are hentai, of course, and I am NOT saying that the above are the only characteristics of furries. However, as with anything else regarding manga or anime, one must be careful not to assume that "cartoon characters" are, necessarily intended for "G-rated" audiences. In fact, there are some that probably NOBODY should see.
On a separate note: I'm moving this to "Anime and Comics," which is really a more appropriate category. Just because something asks for an opinion (logical or otherwise), and may even be somewhat "philosophic" does not mean its actually related to the study or discussion of philosophy or religion, proper.
Well let's see... a 'furry' can be described as any animal-based character that walks on two legs and talks, basically, right? If that's the case, anybody who says that they hate furries is saying they hate classic characters like Bugs Bunny, Yogi Bear, and Mickey Mouse. They're gonna be missing out on a lot of good stuff if they hate furries. Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Courage the Cowardly Dog (he talks sometimes...), the list goes on.
Sure, there's always those people in the dark corners of the Internet drawing things nobody should see, but that's just a small portion of the 'furry' thing as a whole.
Therefore, I vote 'like'.
I think it's stated to be mostly harmless by people as opposed to other fetishes, such as beastiality and pedophilia, as Traveller pointed, which are not victimless fetishes.
I think some furverts are a bit creepy though, as I don't see the attraction of erotic anthropomorphized animals, or having sex with people dressed in fursuits. But, you know, to each his own, and I don't begrudge them their fetishes, as disconcerting as I may find them.
