Is it possible to cry underwater?

lol! heard this on an advert any ideas

Well, I would imagine you could, but you probably wouldn't notice because of the water around you...

It depends how deep you go. Eventually, the pressure would be too much for any tears to exit your tear ducts. That's assuming you could even go that far down without a mask though--I couldn't immagine the pain..

...but normally, I would assume it's easy to cry underwater. All that's different is that you can't see the tears.

This is more of a "Science and Nature" question instead of a "Philosophy and Religion" question. Moved.

Hmm, not sure about that. Tear ducts allow for fluid to leave the eye. I was having an issue with dry eyes and my opthamalogist suggested tear duct plugs to slow the drainage.

It never came up during my training, but I don't see any reason why the formation of tears would be an issue while diving.

I've tried it, and yes you can cry - but I just had my face immersed in a tub full of water.

I was really hurt and sad (for something too personal to mention here) and to hide from the people around me I went into the bathroom. Since I was too hurt and could not control my sobs, to keep shut any sounds due to my crying I just immersed my face into the tub full of water and I could cry for about 20-30 seconds. I could even feel my eyes trying to give way to tears.

I remember this because I still feel the sadness of the incident which made me cry.

Of course you can cry underwater.

Crying is simply fluid leaving your eyes via your tear ducts. One might even say that crying doesn't involve tears at all, but only the racking sobs associated with them. Doing it underwater simply means that the fluid leaving your tear ducts mixes with the surrounding solution immediately instead of being exposed to the air.

In any case, under enough pressure, your body would implode, and crying would be a moot point.

yes ...you can make cry under the water...its same fluid.. but im not yet experience.. Crying or Very sad

All this about pressure is mostly nonsense.
The only reason you can survive high pressure is because the pressure inside your body (and all its cavities) matches the outside pressure. Since the pressures match (or are at least close) at all times (or you're dead), there is little or no pressure gradient to move the tears across, just like at normal pressure, so there should be no problem. The only time pressure would matter would be if something was clogged up, or you were descending quickly.

I guess it is possible, but personally never tried before.

Yes it is possible, but the sound down in the water goes much faster tha in the air.
