Weird Customs and Rituals

MadeinIndia
Parsis in India throw the bodies of their dead into a well where they are eaten by vultures. The parsis believe that the vultures eat their loved one's bodies and take their souls to Paradise or something like that.

Do you know any such practise or custom followed in any religion? Do share it with us here...

There is a very strange ritual here in America that happens every four years.

People go to a predetermined location and pick between two people that they don't like and are in no way qualified to the job. Then they go home believing that they've made a difference.

My Church is very warm, thanks. (Although air-conditioned for during those dog days of summer). Worship in comfort, I suppose.

Anyways, do you think it's a bit harsh that we be labelling other cultures as "weird." Until you understand it from others' point of view, you basically have no authority to call it anything.

I think it goes with saying he meant "weird" from an outsiders view.

But with that in mind, I'll mention something from my own culture and upbringing. How about the christian custom of eating a bit of bread and sipping a bit of wine with the understanding that it is turning into blood and flesh. I could easily see people thinking that was "weird".

I have read a report from an anthropologist published a while back. It is one of those where the anthropologist go to live in a society to study it any way it is very interesting and i think that everyone here in this thread should read it.
