I am looking for a Free alternative to these programs. I have tried GAIM but it just wasn't good.

Photoshop/Corel Draw Alternative
For drawing/painting try the free version of Project Dogwaffle. For image manipulation try GIMP. Also check out the freeware venues for illustration programs.
