Setting up a wireless network

DimaSafr
Hi, I am strugling to set up a wireless network. I run Windows XP wizard and it told me to use a USB flash drive in order to automatically set up a wireless network. The next step I had to plug the flash drive into the access point but my Router does not have a USB hub. Is there a way around so I could set up my network without having to plug a USB drive in a Router. O may be I just need a special router orelse.....

I think your "access" point is probably your non-wireless pc...its quite easy to share an internet connection that way under xp - so i suggest doing that (if you have another pc!)

Isn't there an administration panel for your router?
Most router admin panels use to have set-up wizards, at least mine Smile

Well - that MIGHT be an idea, however you cant use the admin panel to add a USB port* so I dont see how its relevant...

* (is it called a USB port OR an USB port?? (the latter should be correct, however to me it sounds kinda funny??))

I have the same problem!! is there any way to turn my computer so that i can connect my pda via wireless and share my internet?

I think so...

Go to network connections and press "set up a wireless network..." in the left panel (XP)

If that doesnt help you, ask me again - i might be able to help you further Wink

By far the easiest way is to get a router that complies with these specifications:
1: Has wireless connectivity.
2: Is worth being called a router.

Otherwise, I, personaly would set up the internet-connected computer as a true proxy server with third party software, and not mess with that windows internet sharing junk.

Is your router a wireless router? Through the Windows XP Wireless Connection Setup wizard, you cannot set up your router - you can only create an "ad-hoc" (peer-to-peer) wireless network using the wireless card in your computer. An ad-hoc network has no Internet connectivity unless you have turned on Internet Connection sharing in your host computer.

Not perfect english...but yeah! i agree - it shouldnt be much harder that that really (read the instructions booklet for your wireless adapter)

This will ofcourse mean that your main pc will have to be on to use the wireless one - but i think thats the only way. I have NEVER heard of a router with a USB drive... Confused
