N.T. Wright, Bishop Tom of Durham

Are there readers of this man's work out there? He recently had Simply Christian, and before that, mounds of other pages and books for Christians. I am struggling with faith. Being a young woman, I haven't had many serious confrontations with it. I am in love with a young man who is very INTO this stuff. I sometimes find I even have animosity when I hear him talk about Jesus. I need to find peace with it.

He recommends N.T. Wright.

Do you have any suggestions for actual helpful things to look at that even start to inspire the mystery and hint at what it even is?

Is it your decision/need/want to be at peace with this or is this pressure ? If the 1st then OK...I'll try to make positive suggestions. If the 2nd then I think you need to consider whether that is a good thing in itself first.

Assuming this is a personal want/need then:

I'm not really familiar with N. T. Wright, but here are a few recommendations for reading that is about as solid as one can get:
  • Francis A. Schaeffer
  • J.C. Ryle
  • John Piper
  • Dorothy L. Sayers
  • Sinclair Ferguson
  • R.C. Sproul
  • J. I. Packer
  • Thomas Boston
  • Charles Spurgeon
  • Thomas Watson

Those are in no particular order. Some are current, some are from many, many years ago. They may have different opinions on some issues, but the central core of their theology is quite sound.

In addition, if you are looking for some devotional reading with some actual depth, and not the typical, Max-Lucado-style fluff of today, I highly recommend Valley of Vision, edited by Arthur G. Bennett.
