Hello,

pstn or dsl? brand & model of both modem and router?
no need to reset anything in the computer. just change settting in router.
need more info.. cannot process
chances are you just need to 'powercycle'...
unplug your modem, your router and shut off your computer...
plug in your modem.. wait for the lights to come on...
plug in your router.. wait for the lights to come on...
turn on your computer.. poof, you should be online...
if that doesn't work, you need to check settings...
ok, set your network connection to automatically detect the ip... in winXP
start>settings>control panel>network and internet connections> network connections
right click on local area connection, click properties.. in the general tab, make sure "obtain an ip address automatically" has a dot.. same for DNS... click ok until you're out...
ok, now set up your router.. find out what ip you need to go to in internet explorer to get to the settings...
(for linksys you type in the ip 192.168.1.1 in internet explorer and hit enter.. it will ask for a username and password... default is uid = admin, pw = admin)
follow instructions for your router to set everything up automatically or whatever way you need... dsl you will probably have to put in your dial in settings, cable should be all automatic...
and then finally...
powercycle again...
unplug your modem, your router and shut off your computer...
plug in your modem.. wait for the lights to come on...
plug in your router.. wait for the lights to come on...
turn on your computer.. poof, you should be online...
if not, give me more info and i'll tell you what you're doing wrong
Thanks for the help. I have fixed the Modem and Router
