Blogger on Frihost

Hello,
I started to blog recently with Blogger (blogging service acquired by Google). There is an option there that allows you to host the blog outside the Google domain, on your host of choice. This could be a functionality boost (I could modify templates and layouts, add flash etc), and the file transfer is performed via FTP.
Anyone using this service with Frihost as a "back store" ?

Cheers,

I don't think Blogger allows you to host a blog outside Google's servers. Can you post a link to the page where you found this info ? We might be able to have a look and help you to on this.

It is totally ok to host your Blogger account on your own server. They have a pretty detailed walkthrough of how to do so in their FAQs section. I personally have not tried it but it doesn't seem that bad. Good luck and let us now how it turns out.

Hello,

I investigated the Frihost-Blogger connection a little bit. It works like charm via FTP, but I find FTP publishing too insecure. And since I found out that the secure version of FTP - SFTP - which doesn't transfer my account password unencripted is not available on Frihost (see http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-12125.html&highlight=sftp), I decided not to host my blog on Frihost.

Sounds interesting. I think I will look into that as well.

Hi!

ck88 - did you have time to look at it? It seems there is new Blogger Beta out there at Google and I wonder whether anything has changed in terms of security?

Cheers

Blogger beta does seem to add support for sFTP, but Frihost doesn't support sFTP IIRC, so it doesn't help much. Plain FTP is too unsecure, exchanging data over plaintext is creepy.

Hello,

Thanks for response. It seems that Frihost is not perfect in terms of being a blog hosting service.
You are right about the security issues!

Cheers,

Wojtek
