I'd suggest either taking that amp to somewhere that will repair it for you or replacing it. I don't think they are supposed to be user-servicable, and who knows, you might cause a fire or something.

Phoenix Gold uses really cheap components, so I'm not terribly surprised that you've got a distorted channel. Once again ocalhoun is right in the post above by saying that they're not (supposed to be) user servicable. Either get it repaired or try simple things like turning the gain down and seeing if that helps. I can tell you right now, from working with electronics, that what you're getting is probably diode clipping. Definitely turn the gain down and see if that improves sound quality.

This is probably a REALLY stupid question, but are you sure its the amp and not a blown speaker?

^Did you take the time to read about the problem carefully?

the first thing i would be checking is the earthing to the amp. the earth cable should always be of greater or larger size to the power cable, and it should be grounded to a CLEAN large bolt in the chassis of the car.

failing that i'd be assuming the amp is no good.
