I just wanted to know whether you think that happiness is the same as being content and satisfied or are these three "happiness" "contentment" and "satisfaction" NOT the same (and therefore different)?

Or -- for the more philosophical -- where would one find happiness: in HAVING (more and more?) in DOING (and getting recognized for it) or in BEING (Happiness is "to be" yourself in all truth) Question

According to Webster, they're different.

People in this forum just know how to ask disturbing questions! I've never thought about happiness in those terms. I didn't even think of the question of happiness before I saw this post.

Thanks!

hmm I think it is different.. you know.. when you are happy.. doesn't mean you are satisfied.. right? I can't think of any example but just.. think about it.. I will come back and post an example when I can think of one.. and yes.. people in this forum asks questions that nobody mostly won't ask elsewhere.. but I don't call it disturbing though...

True, one can be satisfied but not happy. But when one is happy, isn't it that we are "virtually" satisfied? I'd think that satisfaction is one of the components of happiness but not the other way around.

Hmm...interesting.

OK...Let's be thought provoking....

Happiness is a positive state because it is not defined by the presence or lack of something else, but is a thing or state unto itself.
'I feel happy today. He is a happy chappy.'

Content is a neutral state because although it does not imply a lack of something, neither is it obviously a distinct state unto itself
'He was content with his lot. The man was content to let things be'

Satisfied is a negative state because it is usually defined in terms of the absence of something else.
'The hungry man was, at last, satisfied after the meal. The unhappy man was
finally satisfied when his grievance was aired.'

Is this valid as a distinction between the terms ?
