Domain ID Protect is to hide your contact info from the world.

Can anyone tell me if there is any disadvantages of Domain ID Protect while registring a domain name?

Does ID Protect have any effect on Search Engine placement?
Can Search Engines or any other person still get your private info from Domain Registrar?

There arent much disadvantages, definately not for a personal/small website. It's needed for a big company or very popular website.

I don't know what exactly the "Domain ID Protect" is. A lot of registrars have something similar but they all call it different. Normally when they just change it to something default, then the search engines will see the same default thing. Also, the search engines do not or very rarely use the whois information. Maybe for spam detection, but nothing more.

I assume the government/police is able to obtain the information from the registrar. Normal people shouldn't be able to do it.
