I use phpBB forum because it is free. Personally I love vbulletin board. Had nice features and better security. Too bad it is not free Sad

When it comes to comparing paid forums, vBulletin has a more professional look than Invision Board.

It is the same like SMF has a more professional look than phpBB.

phpbb is good enough for me. and there's a huge comunity behind it, that's a plus

XMB and IPB 2.x is my forums of choice. I can guaruntee you you won't find as much administrative features and ease of theme and mod installation as IPB 2.x anywhere else except for possibly vBulletin, though I have never administrated one.

My website currently is equiped with an integrated forum that came with the content manager that I use--Not my favorite. I have used phpBB, vBulletin, Woltlab Burning Board, and a few others. From my experience Woltlab Burning Board is the best because it can be manipulated to fit practically all of your needs (you can edit colors without the need of themes, and you can also change the templates). For me it has been hard to find the perfect board because the only way i could make it fit my needs 100% is if I made my own board, but I dont have the ability. Anyway, the board does have a price, but there also a free version Woltlab Burning Board Lite which you can download at http://www.woltlab.com

I don't currently have a forum but I had one (no one joined, no one posted so whats the point?)
I've used phpbb and SMF, SMF is mush better. I haven't used the one the cost money, I don't have the money.

Right now I don't have a forum. When I get my account ok'd, I will have a GC Board. A GC Board is a modded version of a discoboard. A discoboard is an Ign replica board, which is coded out of php and mysql, and some css for the stylesheets. It has the most options out of any board I've ever seen.

It has all the features of any board you can think of, and more. It has a wul list feature, which is really cool. You can add users to your wul (watched users list) to keep track of their posts and stuff, and it is also a sign of respect. Usually the more wuls you have, the more your respected on the board. Another feature it has is editable users colors and a title for VIP and up. Not just your username only being red, you can pick any color for the text, any color to highlight it, and any color boarder. See what I mean when I say more features?

Another thing it has is usergroup making. It's premade usergroups come as from highest in power to lowest:
Administrator-Total Control over the boards
Editor-Almost total control, can do pretty much everything but delete accounts and ban the admin
Manager-A little liss power than the editor. The only thing they can't do that the editors can is code the boards.
Moderators-Can do what regular moderators do, like ban, edit posts, delete posts, sticky topics, etc.
VIP-Pretty much just gets lower flood control thatn regular users, but also gets user colors and title
Member-No special powers.

And, the boards are fully customizable, on and off the boards, you can change the code, add mods, and do more than any other board out there. For a link to them, pm me. They are free, but you have to install them. To install them you need ftp access. If you wan the installation guide you may also pm me for it.

i use SMF. anyone who has used both phpbb and smf will know the flexibility it offers. you have control over every aspect possilble. it loads faster than phpbb (i tried this using the same topics/boards. smf uses lesser queries and has a lower load on the server).

but when it comes to themes and extensions, smf isnt the best. the inbulit package manager works, but under lot of constraints. ive not been able to install any package in 2 servers where i have webspace. i then had to d/l the entire files/db to my local machine, install the packages there, and then reupload it. not the best way!

but again, considering the advantages it has, id still stick with SMF
