Hey
I'm from Australia and I was wondering if there where any fencers reading these forums. If your a fencer I was wondering what you consider the best weapon and why?
Epee.
Why?
No need for a referee. Everything is a target. The weapon most simulates real combat. Cheaper. More pure. More elegant.
does anyone else like to fence? as in foils, sabres and epees...namely foils?
I always wanted to learn how to fence as a kid, but the closest I ever came to the sport was playing Raphael in Soul Calibur II.
I did it for half a term at schoolio, but didn't carry on. I thought the costume things looked really gay
.
My aunt used to be quite good at it and used to let us use her foils , jackets, masks etc when we were children. It was heaps of fun, but I have never done it seriously.
i been fencing once... it wasn't too bad... i was bout 12 i think... but now it would be boring for me
I tried fencing once when I was younger, but I don't remember anything about it. I'd love to try again.
I tried it , i was useing Épée and sarbe ... for me the more interesting weapon was Sabre, but cutting gives sometimes more pain... i liked it
I've only seen fencing in movies, but I really would like to witness a tournament one day or even try it out myself. It would be an awesome stress-reliever as well.
I haven't done actual fencing but I've done sword fighting in the historical re enactment group that I used to be in called pirates of the Morning star we were set in late 18th century- early 19th century and dressed mainly in naval wear but also normal period wear. I would really like to do fencing but there isn't a fencing school near where I live. I also play Jugger which fighting with a padded weapon. Have a look at our site if you are curious what jugger is: http://www.jugger.org.au/
I fenced a bit in college. Didn't really keep up with it at all. Mosly foil, but dabbled with the epee and sabre.
I almost got skewered, once, when a newbie lunged when too close. The tip of his foil snapped and skidded off the tunic. Cut the tunic, but it held enough to deflect the sharp fracture. To the guy who said he thought the "costume" was gay, all I can say is the I am darn glad I was looking gay that day.
I did some fencing in Highschool and some in college, but have not had the chance to get back into it for some time. I find it both relaxing and invigorating at the same time. Easy way to get back into shape as long as you take it slow and easy. I have a tendency to over do it in everthing I do, so I end up in the hot tub and smelling of bengay for days LOL
I live in Las Vegas now, and have been looking for someplace to take lessons again.

I don't, though I'd love to learn how. There's no where around here to learn I don't think though. I believe the closest I can get is Kendo. there's a dojo in the next town that teaches it. I'm probably gonna do that sometimes fairly soon.
I've taken part in short fencing courses in the summer, but never had the chance to cultivate my skills. It's a great hobby and I hope to continue at some point.
Hi i love fencing. I train sabre. Is there anyone who train it too
I used to fence but gave it up as the classes I attended got boring and i wasnt particularly good at it anyway.
I do miss it though, it's a good way to relax and vent some stress and really good for your fitness too.
The three, recent threads about fencing have been merged into this single one, and an older thread has been locked. Please continue all discussion of fencing in this thread.
Thanks.
Iąm a fencer from Poland. I train sabre and I prefer this weapon because in mz opinion epee and foil are too static and slow.

There was an international fencing competition in Konin (Poland) yesterday. There was a lot of fencers from USA Russia Poland etc.
