Im a freshman in college going into Computer Science and before I go I want to learn some C or C++
I know some web bases programming languages like php but ive never done something like this. So I was wondering if anyone with programming knowledge could suggest a good beginners book(s) that I can start reading before I go to college. Any help is greatly appreciated

In school we used C++ for You++, but I can't say if it's good or bad. There are probably better options if you are going to go out and buy a book.

Obviously, you should get a copy of Bjarne Stroustrup's "C++ Programming Language". Get the full story from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

I would also recommend "Thinking in C++", by Bruce Eckel, which I think is available as a free eBook, as well as in the form of treeware.
