Well really, what else is new! This isn't the first time and won't be the last. But like so many other bad habits such as smoking and unprotected sex, these drinks will remain popular.

Hmmm, important to note that this is only on drinks in New Delhi and that similar results were found in bottled water in the same area. It sounds like the ground water there is the issue.

Quote:
Johnson said the basic inference drawn from the tests is that groundwater used for making soft drinks is infested with pesticides. She said PML tested the cold drink samples for 16 organochlorine pesticides, 12 organophosphorous and four synthetic pyrethroids -- all of which are commonly used in India as insecticides.

The bigger worry might be the last paragraph.
Quote:
Narain, however, said in India, these companies cannot be taken to court since the norms that regulate manufacturing of cold drinks here are a "meaningless maze."

So coca-cola's bad for you, huh? Wow. Never would have guessed...

It's not like it does anything to nails, right? Well documented what happens when you put a nail in coca-cola. Razz

Yeah, let's take an isolated case where the existing ground water is contaminated and make a blanket statement. Rolling Eyes

BTW - Coke products have a pH range around 2.5 to 4 and the stomach's pH is typicall around 2, even more acidic than coke.

Well, I don't have cancer yet, my teeth are almost perfect, and I drink pop every once in awhile. Hrm, I probably won't stop. We all know it's not good for us, but we all do it anyways. Funny how the human mind works.

This just in!!!! Every type of food and every known drink in the entire world is bad for you in some way. I recently heard a news story on the radio about 3rd hand smoke. What's next? Spring water causes leprocy?

Enough already!

I know, I know. I'm trying to be sarcastic here.

I don't think you can really blame the companies that produce them when the companies that supply them are supplying contaminated ingredients.

Dang. Sorry, I missed that. Laughing In that case, never mind. Laughing

Seriously, I worry about that statement that the laws are unenforceable.
That needs to e addressed.

I'd love to proof you wrong. Wink What is your accusation? The story out of India is bad, but it seems to be due to ground water contamination and is a problem with bottle water there, too. Bad, but local. It's already been pointed out that the pH of Coke is less acidic than the stomach, so I assume you've got something new. Smile
