How to get REAL traffic

The fact of the matter is, starting a new website, and establishing a steady flow of traffic is HARD! So I wrote this tutorials for first-timers. In one word, the key tto traffic is Google. Look at the above chart from my website. %79 percent of my traffic comes from google!
1.The first thing you want to do is make sure your page has a good descipitve title tag. Make sure it isn't too long but isn't too short.
2. Make sure your meta tags are relevant to the page content.
3. Make a google site map. there are tons of generators on the web. Then submit it into google (http://tinyurl.com/jntkm)EDITED
4. Make sure you exchange link! Type your targetted keywords in google, and attemp to link exchange with the top ten. Dont be affraid, they will exchange with you!
5. Prepare to wait. Rome wasn't built in a day. Dont expect traffic untill anywhere from 2-12 months.
6. Once you listed, update your content freqently, google LOVES fresh content.
I hoped this helped some newbies. If you have any comment feel free to post it.

i have include this into index.php at my site in every folder. the effect is, i have same meta tags for every index.php page, because i include header.php

how to fix this, without change my header.php

thanks...

You will have to make a new head file for ever page of your site. Give them all different name. Then use a php variable to call it.

Meta tags are more hassle than they are worth. Google, and the other main search engines do not use them. I don't bother with them and my sites get good positions in the serach engines.

Meta tags are left over from older technology that search engines used, but you can forget them now.

I beg to differ. The 'description' META tag is still useful. Many search engines (including Google) will sometimes use that as the little text blurb that appears below your link in SERPs.

As for how to get traffic, some things to add to the list:

1) Stay on top of the hot going trends on the net and make a related website.
2) Do something completely original.

Thanks for the tutorial. You have deff. shown me some things. I will bookmark this for later.

Hi, I am also new to SEO. I guess u'r site did't get listed in google due to

1. Lot of keywords used in meta tag. but none of them appear in your body text.

2. Your home page is in Flash. I think flash conents will be hard while crawling (Not sure)

if any SEO guru find the above mentioned reasons are not true. please post the reason. I too want to know what's the SEO tricks to be followed while designing.

tq

Simply registering with Google does not have much effect. If Google finds your site by itself, then it will be indexed quicker. Make sure you have links from other websites, the higher the PR of the page with the link on the better. Some forums (including this one) use the nofollow tag that prevents Google's bots from following the link, so you need to make sure that if you are posting your links on forums, that they don't use the nofollow attribute.

I've read up on the Google webmaster guide and followed it to a tea... created a site map and also the robot.txt. Still no luck in getting it indexed. I guess the only thing I'm doing at the moment is having a link to my site from other sites. I used swish to create the website.. and it automatically generated the html file containing the meta tags... so... kinda confused at how other flash sites are getting indexed.... any ideas guys? and for reference here it is again:

Flash sites can be indexed on inbound links alone. It is better to have a static html site alongside it if possible, or use techniques that provide a basic html page if the visitor doesn't have flash (such as Googlebot).

I think it is key that you get inbound links to your site with keywords in the anchor text.

warallthetm, could you somehow shorten the URL to the link you posted referring to Google sitemaps in the launch post of this thread? It's spreading the page so that I have to scroll back and forth just to read all the posts.

My freind I think it is you who is stuck in the old times. Google DOES rely on meta tags and always will until a new standard is released. If you read the webmaster guidlines from google you will see that it is required to have good meta tags with matching website content.

As for your site placing well on search engines, such as the link in your sig, I didn't see your site even within the top 200 for the keywords, technical assistance. That's just pitiful if you ask me. Yes, I know there are lots of sites that do techinical assistance stuff, but I though you said you got good placement within major search engines.
warallthetm
for those of you who are new to phpbb, you cant see anyones sigs unless you log in, so google dosnt see your sig unless you place a link in your post like this:

Google see you tag wel but frihost placed a nofollow tag after each link so google dont track it.

Hey thanks bud .

But i think , the most important point , one should heed to , along with these , is to use a light webpage rather than a heavy one .

here , my http://lawnmowers.50webs.com , does great when compared to www.rani-mukharji.com , due to its light appearance .
warallthetm
^Not exactly true^ Although your Page rank is a math equation based on your content to code ratio, you cant make a boreding website template that google loves and expect to have returning visitors. Your website needs to have a good content to code radio, something like 60% code 40% content.
Make sure it looks nice and has googd content.
