I like mars
Which is your fave Planet
I like venus... Even knowing that 450ºC is way too hot for me...
I like EARTH. Too sexy!!!
Earth
The only planet I know.
I like pluto because its the rebel plant, it has its own crazy orbit and not the same one like all those conformists.
That's kind of a tough question, but I would probably say our home planet, Earth. It's the only place (as we know of) in the solar system than can support life. Other than the planet earth, I've had an interest in many other planets. I like Jupiter because of how its atmosphere and layers are composed, and of course, the red spot. An incredible storm that is three times the size of the planet Earth. Venus is also a cool planet. Other than these planets, I also like the tenth and eleventh planets, currently named Quaoar (sp?) and Sedna. Anyway, I can't really choose, but I would say our home planet Earth.
The question of a favorite planet is one that is difficult to answer since all have different characteristics for different events.
for example I love the planet earth for the fact that it is where i live. But what if something happens to it well then it will not be my favorite anymore will it? In a sense all the planets in the universe are my favorite since if something happens to planet earth then I will most likely go the mars or to the moon or somewhere where earth can build a civilization. Then they will become my favorite.
Ofcourse then why are all the others your favorite if there are a certain few that are nearby? You will most likely not get to those that are 1+ light years away will you. (1 light year = 63240 AU (astronomical unit) = 1.41527613 × 1027 m2) Well the answer is quite simple, if I do not like someone that is living on earth, then I could send them on a rocket or something far away from planet earth, and the planet or place it lands on will become my favorite since it will house someone that I despise.
But a rocket can only go so far can it not? Yes ofcourse but once it is deprived of fuel, it will drift, and who knows how far it will drift.
Thus all the planets are my favorite. If you do not agree with my argument simply post answer and I will state what I myself believe.

I like Earth since (as far as I know) it's the only planet that supports like. If all the planets were to support like i would go with Saturn. A couple things i like about Saturn is first: the two rings. The couple other things that I like are the fact that it's lease dense.
The other favorite planet of mine is Pluto. Nothing specific appeals to me about pluto except for the fact that we don't know much about pluto. I like mystories and the most detail picture we have of pluto is not very detailed.
I wish we knew more about pluto.

Now, my favourite is the tenth planet, whatever it is called. If a new one will be discovered, then mine willl be the new one. It's just so cool to know that there are more planets out there. Who know, a hundred years hence, people will be studying that there are 15 planets in our Solar System. Maybe there will be the planets:
Duodon
Poseidon
Reidon
Apollo
..etc.
I'm just imagining.
Before the tenth planet was discovered, I liked Saturn. It looks really beautiful and the rings just captivate my senses. It is also the lightest planet in our Solar System.

I love Venus, although i would'nt think of going to the planet!
I like the Moon. Does that count as a planet?
The full moon on a clear sky is a sight to see in rural places where the city lights do not wipe out the starts. Too few people get to see and wonder at that these days.

Agreed - the moon blanketed with a backdrop of stars is truly an inspiring sight. It often calms me, and I just stare at this amazing nature around us. It really makes me think, and appreciate life.
Jupiter. Although if Saturn was the same distance as Jupiter I would say Saturn. The rings are what tips the balance, but it's just too far to appreciate. Jupiter has it's oblate shape, the four bright Jovian moons, cloud bands and the Great Red Spot - so plenty going on there.
Mercury I've never seen but too small.
Venus is dull but bright with phases.
Earth - ok, but familiarity breeds contempt.
Mars is too small for what it could potentially be.
Uranus too far and dull.
Neptune - nice clouds but far too far.
Pluto - barely a planet.

I've always liked Earth the best. Any planet that provides a warm place for the development of life and intelligence is always good in my books. I have a friend who's a huge fan of mars though, one of her life dreams is to be part of a crew that eventually reaches it.
Jupiter.
Even though it's a gas planet, and we, the human race, could never, ever, live on it. I still like it. Considering that the planet is the biggest in our solar system, and has many moons.

i love saturn.... no other planet looks so amazing!!!
about earth, i read this somewhere.. "Gravity is wrong, The Earth just SUCKS!"
starting today astronomers and experts are meeting in prague to define what a planet is! some believe pluto will be dropped from the list of planets coz its really really different from all others and very small in size too.... however there might be a new planet... some body discovered in 2003... its unofficially called 'Xena" right now... its bigger than pluto in size so it might just make it... so if they decide to keep pluto, we might have 10 planets soon !!!

definitely venus, I'd say the most beautiful, but also the creepiest planet!
Earth is good..
Somehow, I'm leaning towards Earth.
Hey why dont you guys like EARTH..
There are places in this earth where you havnt even thought of..
Places like heaven.....
My thumbs up for my cute EARTH..

Hmm, thats a hard question.
I don't know, I guess you just have to follow where the ladies go. Right now they are pretty contained here, so I guess Earth is as good as any planet.
Mercury would be too hot.
Venus too acidic.
Mars too read.
Jupiter the ladies would be complaining about their weight.
Saturun has too much gas.
Uranus is too funny.
Neptune reminds me of Veronica Mars.
Pluto is a dog from disney.

definitly mars... its alot like earth, they think it could have been an earthlike planet at one point.. wouldn't that be cool?
Earth rules!
Call me biased but I think Earth wins hands down. But Mars is a close second for me.
Not hands down. Earth would seem boring to anyone whose been here for a LONG time. REALLY long. EVerywhere else would get boring much faster, so in that sense Earth wins. For the novelty Pluto would be nice. Not null gravtiy, but a little bit to have fun with. Or Jupiter? Although probably crushed by the gravity there...
i like EARTH coz i live in earth
Earth is great. Thats why we humans keep thrashing it anyway.
But my other fave planet is jupiter. But I wouldn't want to live there. But some of its moons may be more hospitable. But I were to live on one of its moons, I would scream everyday at the huge jupiter occupying the sky.
Jupiter. It has lots of spots that last for several years that are extremely huge hurricane/storms that ravage the atmosphere. If those things were here, the red spot would swallow the earth whole. It has crushing gravity that destroys scientist's toys that explore the planet.
They even say that it was a failed companion of or sun. It would have been fun to have double suns in our solar system. Imagine two suns in the blue summer sky.

I like Earth, because so far it is the only planet human can really live on.
Undoubtedly i would pick an extrasolar planet, like this planet HD 188753 Ab, even though it may be bigger than Jupiter and it's surely full of gas.

Well, Earth is indeed a great place... Still I like Mars a lot! Simply because that planet offers us the slight possibility to go there someday, and because it looks like our home world much more than many other planets. Polar zones, frozen water, volcanic activity...
I like Earth, because its my home planet and I'm facinated with it. But Saturn with rings all around is bz one single word the most amazing planet when looking from the outer space. It is marvelous look at its huge rings.
uranus. its so pertiy
my favorite planet is Saturn......
when you look at saturn through the telescope, it's really beautiful.
The golden color is amazing.

I've always had a thing for Jupiter but Saturn looks really cool too. I dunno, almost everything in space looks beautiful (except for space junk that humans have left up there).
Earth because it is blue, and this is my favorite color.
Neptune. Same reason - because it's blue and I like blue. And the pictures I've seen of it look awesome.
Saturn, but it's too far. I would consider swapping Jupiter and Saturn around, but that would make problems with gravity in the solar system and possibly Galileo failing to see the four Jovian moons and setting science back.
Pluto
Oh wait
It's not a planet anymore
I'd have to say, Earth, 'cause I live on it.

I would have to say I like Pluto, too, even if some mean person decided to revoke it's planet status. I've always had a soft spot for under dogs.
I like Mars. But hey, we live on Earth, so I like Earth! I want to explore the universe someday. Haha~ but before that, i want to explore the Earth first.
My favorite planet is (guess what) the earth.. I only know that planet closely and I wouldnt like to live somewhere else
Earth sweet home !
There's no place like Earth ...
I'm with u Earthlings.
No other planet is good enough for me. I love Earth with all its little problems. I love u Gaya (the spirit of the Earth)

No matter how strange this thread is, i like Dominaria because it has near-unlimited resources and is very pretty. But i don't know if fictional planes count as planets so, i also like Mars and our poor planet that has been sent back to dwarf-planet class.
I prefer sun and earth....

| Mars (Greek: Ares) is the god of War. The planet probably got this name due to its red color; Mars is sometimes referred to as the Red Planet. (An interesting side note: the Roman god Mars was a god of agriculture before becoming associated with the Greek Ares; those in favor of colonizing and terraforming Mars may prefer this symbolism.) The name of the month March derives from Mars.
Mars has been known since prehistoric times. Of course, it has been extensively studied with ground-based observatories. But even very large telescopes find Mars a difficult target, it's just too small. It is still a favorite of science fiction writers as the most favorable place in the Solar System (other than Earth!) for human habitation. But the famous "canals" "seen" by Lowell and others were, unfortunately, just as imaginary as Barsoomian princesses. Viking 2 Landing Site Pathfinder Landing Site The first spacecraft to visit Mars was Mariner 4 in 1965. Several others followed including Mars 2, the first spacecraft to land on Mars and the two Viking landers in 1976. Ending a long 20 year hiatus, Mars Pathfinder landed successfully on Mars on 1997 July 4. In 2004 the Mars Expedition Rovers "Spirit" and "Opportunity" landed on Mars sending back geologic data and many pictures; they are still operating after more than a year on Mars. Three Mars orbiters (Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Odyssey, and Mars Express) are also currently in operation. Mars' orbit is significantly elliptical. One result of this is a temperature variation of about 30 C at the subsolar point between aphelion and perihelion. This has a major influence on Mars' climate. While the average temperature on Mars is about 218 K (-55 C, -67 F), Martian surface temperatures range widely from as little as 140 K (-133 C, -207 F) at the winter pole to almost 300 K (27 C, 80 F) on the day side during summer. Though Mars is much smaller than Earth, its surface area is about the same as the land surface area of Earth. Olympus Mons Mars has some of the most highly varied and interesting terrain of any of the terrestrial planets, some of it quite spectacular: Olympus Mons: the largest mountain in the Solar System rising 24 km (78,000 ft.) above the surrounding plain. Its base is more than 500 km in diameter and is rimmed by a cliff 6 km (20,000 ft) high. Tharsis: a huge bulge on the Martian surface that is about 4000 km across and 10 km high. Valles Marineris: a system of canyons 4000 km long and from 2 to 7 km deep (top of page); Hellas Planitia: an impact crater in the southern hemisphere over 6 km deep and 2000 km in diameter. Much of the Martian surface is very old and cratered, but there are also much younger rift valleys, ridges, hills and plains. (None of this is visible in any detail with a telescope, even the Hubble Space Telescope; all this information comes from the spacecraft that we've sent to Mars.) Southern Highlands The southern hemisphere of Mars is predominantly ancient cratered highlands somewhat similar to the Moon. In contrast, most of the northern hemisphere consists of plains which are much younger, lower in elevation and have a much more complex history. An abrupt elevation change of several kilometers seems to occur at the boundary. The reasons for this global dichotomy and abrupt boundary are unknown (some speculate that they are due to a very large impact shortly after Mars' accretion). Mars Global Surveyor has produced a nice 3D map of Mars that clearly shows these features. The interior of Mars is known only by inference from data about the surface and the bulk statistics of the planet. The most likely scenario is a dense core about 1700 km in radius, a molten rocky mantle somewhat denser than the Earth's and a thin crust. Data from Mars Global Surveyor indicates that Mars' crust is about 80 km thick in the southern hemisphere but only about 35 km thick in the north. Mars' relatively low density compared to the other terrestrial planets indicates that its core probably contains a relatively large fraction of sulfur in addition to iron (iron and iron sulfide). Like Mercury and the Moon, Mars appears to lack active plate tectonics at present; there is no evidence of recent horizontal motion of the surface such as the folded mountains so common on Earth. With no lateral plate motion, hot-spots under the crust stay in a fixed position relative to the surface. This, along with the lower surface gravity, may account for the Tharis bulge and its enormous volcanoes. There is no evidence of current volcanic activity. However, data from Mars Global Surveyor indicates that Mars very likely did have tectonic activity sometime in the past. Valley Network There is very clear evidence of erosion in many places on Mars including large floods and small river systems. At some time in the past there was clearly some sort of fluid on the surface. Liquid water is the obvious fluid but other possibilities exist. There may have been large lakes or even oceans; the evidence for which was strenghtened by some very nice images of layered terrain taken by Mars Global Surveyor and the mineralology results from MER Opportunity. Most of these point to wet episodes that occurred only briefly and very long ago; the age of the erosion channels is estimated at about nearly 4 billion years. However, images from Mars Express released in early 2005 show what appears to be a frozen sea that was liquid very recently (maybe 5 million years ago). Confirmation of this interpretation would be a very big deal indeed! (Valles Marineris was NOT created by running water. It was formed by the stretching and cracking of the crust associated with the creation of the Tharsis bulge.) Early in its history, Mars was much more like Earth. As with Earth almost all of its carbon dioxide was used up to form carbonate rocks. But lacking the Earth's plate tectonics, Mars is unable to recycle any of this carbon dioxide back into its atmosphere and so cannot sustain a significant greenhouse effect. The surface of Mars is therefore much colder than the Earth would be at that distance from the Sun. Mars has a very thin atmosphere composed mostly of the tiny amount of remaining carbon dioxide (95.3%) plus nitrogen (2.7%), argon (1.6%) and traces of oxygen (0.15%) and water (0.03%). The average pressure on the surface of Mars is only about 7 millibars (less than 1% of Earth's), but it varies greatly with altitude from almost 9 millibars in the deepest basins to about 1 millibar at the top of Olympus Mons. But it is thick enough to support very strong winds and vast dust storms that on occasion engulf the entire planet for months. Mars' thin atmosphere produces a greenhouse effect but it is only enough to raise the surface temperature by 5 degrees (K); much less than what we see on Venus and Earth. South Polar Cap Early telescopic observations revealed that Mars has permanent ice caps at both poles; they're visible even with a small telescope. We now know that they're composed of water ice and solid carbon dioxide ("dry ice"). The ice caps exhibit a layered structure with alternating layers of ice with varying concentrations of dark dust. In the northern summer the carbon dioxide completely sublimes, leaving a residual layer of water ice. ESA's Mars Express has shown that a similar layer of water ice exists below the southern cap as well. The mechanism responsible for the layering is unknown but may be due to climatic changes related to long-term changes in the inclination of Mars' equator to the plane of its orbit. There may also be water ice hidden below the surface at lower latitudes. The seasonal changes in the extent of the polar caps changes the global atmospheric pressure by about 25% (as measured at the Viking lander sites). Mars by HST Recent observations with the Hubble Space Telescope have revealed that the conditions during the Viking missions may not have been typical. Mars' atmosphere now seems to be both colder and dryer than measured by the Viking landers (more details from STScI). The Viking landers performed experiments to determine the existence of life on Mars. The results were somewhat ambiguous but most scientists now believe that they show no evidence for life on Mars (there is still some controversy, however). Optimists point out that only two tiny samples were measured and not from the most favorable locations. More experiments will be done by future missions to Mars. A small number of meteorites (the SNC meteorites) are believed to have originated on Mars. On 1996 Aug 6, David McKay et al announced what they thought might be evidence of ancient Martian microorganisms in the meteorite ALH84001. Though there is still some controversy, the majority of the scientific community has not accepted this conclusion. If there is or was life on Mars, we still haven't found it. Large, but not global, weak magnetic fields exist in various regions of Mars. This unexpected finding was made by Mars Global Surveyor just days after it entered Mars orbit. They are probably remnants of an earlier global field that has since disappeared. This may have important implications for the structure of Mars' interior and for the past history of its atmosphere and hence for the possibility of ancient life. When it is in the nighttime sky, Mars is easily visible with the unaided eye. Mars is a difficult but rewarding target for an amateur telescope though only for the three or four months each martian year when it is closest to Earth. Its apparent size and brightness varies greatly according to its relative position to the Earth. There are several Web sites that show the current position of Mars (and the other planets) in the sky. More detailed and customized charts can be created with a planetarium program. |

my favorite planet would have to be earth. the reason is because this is the only planet that iv ever really known and it is my home. lets just not destroy it lol
EASIEST QUESTION EVER
The answer is, of course, Magrathea.
"Double-yoo tee eff?" you say? Magrathea is great for six reasons:
1. It was dreamed up by Douglas Adams
2. It is the home of Slartibartfast
3. They design planets there
4. The Magratheans designed Earth to find the question to life, the Universe, and everything after it was revealed that the answer to life, the Universe, and everything was 42.
5. It's in the horsehead nebula: http://www.spacetelescope.org/projects/fits_liberator/fitsimages/screen/james_long_18.jpg
I suggest, while Earth is a worthy pick, you consider others listed kindly here by our friends at wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Places_in_The_Hitchhiker's_Guide_to_the_Galaxy

I think Alderaan must be the prettiest planet. Does that count ?
On the other hand, earth is cool to live on, Alderaan and Naboo (Star Wars) for example are only shadows from the earth.

i like venus
I read in Discover magazine that Pluto is now officially not a planet. The astronomical union decided that is doesnt dominate its region so it isnt a planet. instead it is a "dwarf" planet.
Plutos my favorite dward planet.

Venus because it is almost green. Maybe if you squint your eyes a bit...

hello everyone,
Good day.
I really like my planet,
it the only planet with life,
GOD created this planet in
order for us to live and multiply...
There is no other planet than the Earth,
It is being well made by the hands of GOD,
Not too cold, Not too Hot, just enough ...
For me, this is the most wonderful and
beautiful planet ever made by GOD,
It's so special.
Thank you LORD for this wonderful PLANET.

My favourite world without a doubt
Is presently seen without
What's more to give my choice more clout
A rare event I'll talk about
So my selection now I voice
Of planets surely the rolls-royce
But more's the reason to rejoice
With triple reason for my choice
As happens every 20 years
In strange alignment it appears
Tonight I'll drink a few good beers
As I await the chosen spheres
In the early dawn is when you’ll see
My choice appear and you'll agree
As you see not 1 but 3
My choice a rare one had to be
For Jupiter, the king of local space
Will soon join mars and show its face
And Mercury will join the chase
The three conjoined will soon take place
So either stay the night with me
Or rise up early so you see
This rare conjunction of the three
Before the dawn will come to be
Three quarter hours before sunrise
Is when you need to watch the skies
A rare celestial sight your prize
Its worth the effort I advise
A triangle it will appear
Assuming that the skies are clear
A picture I hope makes it clear
Where to look as time draws near
My choice includes one which would be
The favourite planet normally
If forced to pick between these three
King Jupiter my choice would be

Is presently seen without
What's more to give my choice more clout
A rare event I'll talk about
So my selection now I voice
Of planets surely the rolls-royce
But more's the reason to rejoice
With triple reason for my choice
As happens every 20 years
In strange alignment it appears
Tonight I'll drink a few good beers
As I await the chosen spheres
In the early dawn is when you’ll see
My choice appear and you'll agree
As you see not 1 but 3
My choice a rare one had to be
For Jupiter, the king of local space
Will soon join mars and show its face
And Mercury will join the chase
The three conjoined will soon take place
So either stay the night with me
Or rise up early so you see
This rare conjunction of the three
Before the dawn will come to be
Three quarter hours before sunrise
Is when you need to watch the skies
A rare celestial sight your prize
Its worth the effort I advise
A triangle it will appear
Assuming that the skies are clear
A picture I hope makes it clear
Where to look as time draws near
My choice includes one which would be
The favourite planet normally
If forced to pick between these three
King Jupiter my choice would be

my favourite planet is and will always be Jupiter, because of its environment(i find it exciting!!!)

Definately Earth. Saturn is a close second, though. And then neptune. Mercury is too close to the sun, venus needs a non-toxic atmosphere, mars gets too much credit for having martians, Jupiter is way to big, I'm tired of uranus jokes, and I'm tired of pluto trying to be a planet. it knows it's not.
Satrun and Earth. dunno why tho
Of course Earth and moon is the best, but without them I like pluto, because it got the same name as the cartoon dog.
Saturn is kewl as its rings make it distinctive. While I will never get there, it is kind of neat to look @
Well, I like Earth, considering that I'm living on it. But, if you wanted another planet that isn't so obvious, then I like Jupiter. It is the largest planet in our solar system, is a gas giant, has alot of moons, and such characteristics that I like about a big planet. Another one that I like is Mars. It probably once had life on it, with water, just like Earth. To bad that it supposedly died out for some reason.
right now I like venus because it is a good marker for where the comet currently is located!
Saturn and jupiter is always neat because of the rings and moons of course

I'm pretty fond of Earth but I'm very sad to see what is happening to it. I don't understand why there is not much concern in the media and in the government about the drastic changes that are taking place on this planet. What is happening to our country. Are we so busy buying the latest electronic gadgets that we cannot stop and see with own eyes what is happening to our planet. It seemes as if our collective consciousness is lost in a stupor. The most remarkable things are happening, the loss of civil rights, the destruction of our environment and the waging of needless war. The people of this country have lost their will. We are willing to let all of this happen as long as we have something to watch on TV, as long as we can get music on our cell phone, as long as we drive a nice car. I am deeply concerned and cannot understand why people are not in the streets demonstrating.
About interesting environments, I'd think Venus would also be "interesting".... Although if you managed to be there for long, I suppose it would be quite itneresting in a real sense.
Hey!!
I likes Pluto best! I thought it will be nice to build a cozy house in there, far away from the Sun. I think the sun will look like a star from there.
I was thinking of switching over to Cedna, if it was given the status of a planet.
But, poor me even my fav Pluto lost it's position, I feel so sad, after all those years of it having planethood!! Poor poor Pluto!!
And, I was thinking of Jupiter, no one can deny it being a planet, someday they may even make it a star!!
What say go for the Gas Giant!!

Gee, I don't really know. I guess I have several favourites, but my most favourite would be Pluto, for a variety of reasons. Firstly, pluto is the furthest in the Solar System, making it a dark and mysterious planet, sort of like my character. If Pluto was a person, I would picture him as a quiet type, silent but strong, distant and mysterious.
Pluto sort of fits my personality

Jupiter,
The size of the planet is mind boggling and the famous spot is extremely interesting

pluto will always be a planet in my heart and will always be the best planet ever |
Come on. It can't clear its own orbital path, it has an unreliable revolution, it's smaller than its moons. Unable to fulfill the requirements of a real planet.
I like earth.. it's normal for me
Hmm.. My favorite planet by far is Pluto due to the fact that no one can determine whether or not its an actual planet. The fact that its freezing cold over there is another plus.
Oh lol.. would you like to move there?
Man.. just the thought of the freezing climate there sends chills down my spine...
