Abuse and love

"But I love him/her and I know he/she loves me so if I get smacked around once in a while, it's ok. They don't mean it and they always say I'm sorry.

That is part of the abuse cycle in relationships.
If you have a jpartner that degrades you emotionally or hits you/hurts you, then it will never really stop.
It is a relationship you need to get out of unless your mate wants to get help.

BUt you say, "I love him/her". Is it really love? or are you really saying "I will be lonely without him and I don't want to be alone"?

Someone who loves another would never abuse that person. Granted sometimes there will be problems that might lead to a moment of loss of constraint and lead to a slap or shove. But regular abuse has no place in a loving relationship.

One big reason that some people so stay in such a relationship is what you have started; fear of being alone.
