I've always been wondering, what is the most intelligent animal? Other than human, some people say chimps. But is this true?
The smartest animal.
Well dolphins are also extremely intelligent. They seem to have ways to communicate like chimps do, and also live, hunt, and play in groups. Besides, anybody who has read the Hitchhiker's guide knows they are even smarter than humans. 
Come on, didn't you read the Hitchhiker's guide? Mice are the most intelligent. 
But I didn't say they were the smartest, I only said they were smarter than humans.
I think it is the African Grey Parrot.

Most people say chimps, apes, monkeys, etc. Though I have heard others say whales, dolphins, and parrots. I've also heard mice. I'm not sure. What are some ways people determine the smartest animals?

I second this! I love Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. One of my favorite movies ever. Dolphins i think are the smartest. It's only a couple hundred more years until they take over. I also heard penguins were pretty smart but on all the pictures and videos they do stupid things.
I think cats are most intellegent next to humans. They can think for themselves, plus they form social groups around food sources.
Thinking that humans are the most intelligent beings are no more than a Cartesian thought. Please be advised that there is no measure of intelligence. Is an ant that is able to find food very easily intelligent? or us?
I believe that pigs are up there on the list as one of the most intelligent animals, of course, behind us humans

So I just want to say that if we must decide which animal is the smartest by human's principle,and what ever we choose,we get the wrong reslut.

I've heard of another kind of monkeys, the Bonobos, often forgotten in the great apes list (which consists of gorillas, orang-utans, humans, chimps and bonobos). These monkeys often walk on two legs and have many ways of communication and social habits that thrills the scientific community. However, we do not know much about those apes: they are close to extinction and situated in politically unstable african countries, such as Congo's Democratic Republic.
From what I remember, it was said that bonobos might even be closer of humans than chimps...

Human is the smartiest but cat it after that. They understand about all of that you try teach, but they only use that information to fill their needs. And when they see, that doing wrong means something bad, they try to follow those rules what you have. For example I had a cat. He didn't sleep in the night if he knew that someone other didn't sleep. He knocked doors, where he thinks that someone is behind and didn't sleep. But we always spray water on him and he didn't knocked anymore.
I think dogs rule because even if scienntificaly chimps are the smartest i have really found a true frien in one and he died poor thing. He was a siberian malamute really smart dong indeed

Well sayed i agree to you , you cant say any animal smarter and any stupid
they all are smarter in there area , man think he is smarter but do u know ants have discovered atibiotics thousands years ago and human have discovered them just now .
i think this topic is one of the stupid topics.
every one love specific animal to whome they love say they will say for it
some love penguins they will say him smart other hate him and they will call it stupid
like in west owel is smart and in east it is stupid
So, it is individuals ,individual parameters which will not clearify who is
smart enough.
One thing is that on which parameter you say smarter animal .
I would have to say chimpanzee.
I think that the cat is anvery intelligent animal, they find their owners home , no matter how far it is!
