famd is preventing umount (Linux/Gnome related)

FunFunkyFritz
I've always been using KDE, but recently i switched to Gnome.
Somewhere i read that Gnome works best if famd is running. So i inserted it to my init.d scripts.

The problem is that whenever i want to umount a partition or fileshare that damn process has open file handles to the trash folders of that mount. So whenever i want to umount i first have to restart famd. Evil or Very Mad

There must be a simple solution to this.

What is famd? a deamon for what? and does Gnome run better with it? you feel a difference?

I would eaither switch back to KDE that I prefer or to run do a simple BASH script.
Instead of using umount you can do a script called GnomeUMount that looks maybe like this

#Bash
/bin/famd stop
umount /dev/hdb1
/bin/famd start

Or somthing like that
