Keeping Forum Activity

Bockman
This is a doubt i am having and i don't know if i am the only one. i know i have to be active to maintain my account, but what will be considered innactive?

Since it isn't written on the forums (yet.. i know you are working on severall fronts), i thought it would be nice to have a sticky with the "F.A.Q." most asked questions, and it should be up there soon to prevent countless topics about the same thing.

You can see the FAQ on http://frihost.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=2 . I'll make a menu with a link to this soon.

I should have known that there would be questions about this. The answer is hidden in the 'What are the 'Points'?' question. I'll make it more clear whenever I have time. Thank you for asking this.

The Points are used to determine how active you are. You shouldn't worry about them, unless they become negative. The hosting accounts of users with negative Points may be removed. You can't trade and exchange Points.

At the moment, every day 1 point is deducted from every user who is hosted by Frihost. If you reach negative Points, your account might be removed.

You don't have to worry about this now, it might change depending on what the average user posts. People who post 'better' and longer posts may get some points for free and so on.
It's there to prevent users to post 5 posts and then stop posting and get an account for free for their whole life. If you want that sort of service, go to a host with banners.

And if you post, there is also a chance that you may click on a banner and thus generate some money for us.
Of course, this website isn't here to lose money. Very Happy

1 point per post, 1 point per day.
that's a 30 posts/month !
isn't that a little too much ?
there are people who can't always remain so "active" in the forums.
for example, going on a vacation, you come back to find your website off the face of the planet Shocked ...not fair, right ?

I wish there was a better way to judge a persons level of participation in the forums Rolling Eyes

even as it is, I think 30 posts per month's little too much
(although it may be justified considering the generous hosting package that accompanies it Wink )

maybe smaller packages with less post count requirement...

maybe, but i will be active only if my computer still work

I feel that 1 point per day is quite cheap. Even if you are going on vacation, if you are active on the forum you would be having some extra points to go through the winter.

I take that as if you are active, but wasnt able to post for some period, then the admin would understand. But on the other hand if the person is not at all active, and comes and post once in a while then that person is actually being very selfish.
There would be some kind of overhead for providing this amazing service. And when someone is providing something like this it is obligatory to give back something in return.
This is an opportunity for people like me who dont have money to start a web-site. I would gladly post so that I can learn whatever I can from this amazing resource. Too bad there aren't many others who provide such service.

If you write a lot, you can easily post 5-10 posts in a few hours. That would mean that you only have to come 3 to 4 times a month. But yes, it may be lowered or the number of Points you get per post may become a bit higher (maybe 2 Points max).
This is why I don't want to stress the number of Points that are deducted. At the moment it's just in BETA. Very Happy

Let's say you have 40 points and you go on holiday. Then you have ~40 days you may be gone before reaching negative Points. I'll set up some notification that warns you if you have reached a specific amount of negative Points, let's say -3. After receiving that email you will still have some time to react and start posting.
In my opinion you have plenty of time to go on holiday. Very Happy

If youŽll open some other forums and maybe change it from -1 points per day to -0.8 it will be quite easier..

After the community here will grow you could just change it back to -1 or even -2..

what do you think?

Good point -0.8 sounds good for now, as the users increase then back to normal.

I just changed the maximum points you can get per message to 2 points. The longer the post the more points you get. I did this because there were a lot of people posting very small posts. Small posts should be an exception instead of the average. I hope this increase will be good enough to motivate people to post longer posts.
